Con artist and crooks I’ve purchased more vehicles in my life time then I have fingers and toes, this, by far, was the worst and most blatant case of a dealership lying to I’ve purchased more vehicles in my life time then I have fingers and toes, this, by far, was the worst and most blatant case of a dealership lying to my face that I’ve ever experienced. And even when I pointed it out to them, they never denied it, the response from their head guy at the time, (Henry Tessmer) was, “ I guess we shouldn’t have said that” and “that will be a learning lesson for us”. Let me start from the beginning, as I’ve said, I’ve purchased many vehicles of all kinds in different states. That being the case, I like to make the process as simple as possible for both the dealer and myself, so, I do my research ahead of time regarding the vehicle I’m interested in buying and the options that I want. This case was no different. I literally walked into this Toyota dealership with a build sheet from the Toyota company web site. I spoke directly to Henry Tessmer (whom I had met once before) and presented him the build sheet and the price I was looking to pay. I asked him directly, can you sell me this truck for this price. He looked at it and said “yes” then took me over to the new car manager at the time, Eric Glenn, and said to him, “to take care of me”. Eric looked at the build sheet and the price on it and said, “ok”. He looked at his computer and said to me, “ I have this truck in the back”, i replied, “I don’t think so, but if you do I’ll buy it right now”. Eric said, “ok” and sent someone to bring around the truck. The truck was brought around the front of the store and I asked Eric “is that the same truck that’s on my build sheet?”, he looked at my build sheet again and looked at his computer and said, “ yes, however it has a few extras on it that are not on you’re build sheet”. I said let’s just take them off, and he said he couldn’t, so I agreed that if they were willing to give me my price on the truck I would buy the extras that cost $1100. I told them to write up the deal, I put down $1000 and told them I would pick up the truck that weekend. (It was Tuesday). When I got home and looked at the paperwork closer, I noticed that the truck didn’t have the upgraded stereo system that was listed on my build sheet. I called Eric first thing the next day and pointed this out to him. He agreed that it didn’t and said he would see what he could do. The next day he called me and said he couldn’t locate the truck I wanted anywhere and it would have to be built. I told him I wasn’t in a rush and I was fine with having it built as long as we’re sticking to my original price and we’re now deducting for the extras that I didn’t want to begin with. Eric’s reply was, “that’s not a problem, I’ll take care of you”. Less then a week later, Eric called me and said he was able to get the build ok’d and that the truck should be in in about 6-8 weeks. I reminded him again that since we were now building the truck, I didn’t want the extras on it. He said, “ yes, I know, I got you, I’m going to take care of you” when the truck finally came in and I received a call from Eric letting me know it was in. I stated again,” but without the extras and at the original price we agreed on right?”. Eric stated,” I got you, your good”. When I got there he kept wanting me to see and drive the truck, I said, “no thanks, I’m more interested in seeing the new paperwork for this truck”. When he finally showed me the paperwork for the built truck, I notice that he kept the higher price on it which included the extras on the other truck. (That this one didn’t have). I pointed this out and thought it was maybe done in error. Instead, Eric proceeded to tell me what all he had to do to get the truck and point out to me that this one had the nicer stereo. I stated to him that I was aware of the stereo and so was he and Henry when I gave them the build sheet the very first day. I also pointed out to him that we had discussed the price going back to the original price without the extras prior to him ordering the truck and he agreed. However, now he wanted to keep this extra $1100 on the price. Henry was on vacation or something at this time but returned a week later. I contacted him directly, and thought that once the whole thing was explained to him and informed himof what had transpired thru the whole deal and what I had been told by Eric, that he would say,”we’re a good company, we keep our word and don’t screw over our customers. We’ll honor our deal” instead, he said, well Eric shouldn’t have told you that” and “ that’s a learning lesson for us” that was his resolution. The truck was a 2017 tacoma that was almost $40,000, that I had been waiting for for almost three months from the first day I walked in. Both Henry and Eric’s attitudes were, ‘ We have what you want now, and it’s too late to order another one someplace else, so pay our price” needless to say, I did not give in to this last minute strong arm tactic. They are crooks and con artists. More
