I recently visited Toyota Universe to look at a vehicle and worked with Armani, who was pleasant and professional. However, my overall experience left much to be desired and felt like a classic bait-and-sw and worked with Armani, who was pleasant and professional. Earlier in the day, I called to inquire about putting a deposit on a car that was sitting on the lot. I was told that a manager would call me back, but when I followed up, I was informed that all managers were in a meeting all day. Despite this, I decided to drive 35 minutes through traffic to the dealership. When I arrived, I reiterated my intent to put a deposit down immediately and have my husband come in the morning to finalize the purchase. Instead, I was made to wait for an hour while other customers were negotiating—only to later be told that the car was available. Then came the pricing issues. Initially, they quoted me $9,000 over the sticker price, which felt like a blatant bait-and-switch tactic. I refused to pay that inflated price, and after much back and forth, they reluctantly agreed to sell the car at the sticker price. However, they then insisted I drive the car off the lot immediately. I explained again that I wanted to leave a deposit and return with my husband in the morning to complete the purchase, but they refused, claiming they don’t accept deposits. Instead, they suggested I take the car home with only the deposit paid and return in the morning to finalize the sale—a strange and unreasonable proposal. This experience confirmed what my colleagues had warned me about when I mentioned I was shopping at this dealership. The entire process felt disingenuous and left me frustrated. I ultimately decided not to proceed with the purchase and will be taking my business to another Toyota dealership. I cannot recommend Toyota Universe based on this manipulative and unprofessional experience. More
