I brought a newly purchased used F150 in to have them do an inspection and asked for a diagnostic on a minor skip in acceleration at low speed. I called to make an appointment and was told I didn’t need t an inspection and asked for a diagnostic on a minor skip in acceleration at low speed. I called to make an appointment and was told I didn’t need to, and I could just drop it off whenever. Showed up the next morning 30 minutes after they opened and after sitting for an hour watching the service advisors stand around doing nothing, I was told that I had to go inside and make an appointment for the next day. Fine, whatever, made the appointment and showed up the next day, since it was a Friday, they were now going to have to keep the truck over the weekend and they assured me that they would get to it first thing Monday morning. Called Tuesday afternoon to find out what was going on and they hadn’t looked at it yet. They pulled one plug and reported that it needed new plugs, already knew that, but fine. They told me the hitch in acceleration was due to my differential freezing up sometimes, the rear end was discontinued, and they couldn’t fix it. After having two different shops that specialize in differentials tell me that I was right and that it was impossible for the differential to “lock up” a little bit at random times when driving in a straight line, (they explode when that happens) and after quoting me over @$2200 to replace the plugs, I decided to pick the truck up and take it another shop When they brought the truck out it was misfiring badly (wasn’t like that when I dropped it off), check engine light was on, and after doing the plugs myself I found the one they had pulled wasn’t firing at all. So, they gave me my truck back without even fixing the xxxx they broke when they were looking at it. Additionally, the inspection I originally brought it for was never done, no report on the condition of the brakes, or fluids or anything, they just gave me back my truck in worse condition than when I dropped it off and charged me a slightly discounted diagnostic fee ($200 vs $290) which was absolutely useless. In the end I did a bunch of work myself, the truck runs great now, and there was never a problem with the differential, it seems like they diagnosed the problem to a part they couldn’t get because they had no idea what was going on. Lame. Find real mechanics if you need work done. More
