There was a certain amount I needed to get in my pocket after their selling commission and I told them I couldn't go under that amount. To tell you the truth I was skeptical they could reach my bottom dollar. Not only did they reach my bottom dollar, but they got me slightly over $2,000 more. Hats off to them! I wouldn't hesitate having them sell any of my other cars when I'm ready. More

We agreed to a sales price of $6200 though we knew the internet valued it hundreds less. Two reasons we agreed to the $6200 was it had just under 43,000 miles but the bigger reason was that Sky Motorworks told us that they had recently replaced three motors to assure that the top would go up and down as it should. The salesman repeated “replaced three motors” several times. The salesman also insisted that if we didn’t buy it, he had a buyer who wanted it immediately shipped to him even though he hadn’t SEEN the car. Just the year, make, model, and low miles had sold him on this vehicle. Besides, the salesman was such a nice young guy with a lovely little daughter who happened to be in his office while we were there. We could see that he was a family man and really cared about his business. We realized this was a used car and there could be problems but we were assured we could drive this car without having to put any money into the automobile for awhile. We were also assured that the tires, brakes, and top were in good condition. NOT SO Once we got the car home, we put the convertible top down and up once, with our assistance, both ways. The salesman had explained that “after you put the top up and down several times, it’ll loosen up and it’ll go up and down completely by itself very soon.” The second time we tried to put the top down, it simply wouldn’t go, even after doing what he had shown us to do. So we took it to our local Auto Center, who had been highly recommended to us by several people. Three mechanics there told us they’d never encountered such a convertible top frame. It was bent in such a way that they couldn’t imagine what the reasoning could have been. “Cobbled together” was a term used over and over again. They made several calls for parts and said it could cost at least $3000+ to get the top in working condition. They noted that the three folding top motors needed to be replaced as they were not working and one had been welded together. At this point we took the car home and called one of the owners of Sky Motorworks. They said they’d get back to us but we never heard anything so we told our local repair shop to order the parts. Once we took the car back, they had it for 10 working days. They kept running into more and more problems and even had to take it to get the new folding top module programmed. Turned out that they had to purchase three new folding top motors (that came to over $2160) plus numerous other parts. In the end we had to pay $3800+ to get the convertible top to go up and down but it still needs $1400 worth of parts, plus labor, to work properly. The Auto Center has such a good reputation in our area and they didn’t charge us for an additional 5+ hours of labor! We now have well over $10,000 invested in a 1998 BMW convertible which we have owned less than two months. We contacted the owners twice before posting this but have not received a response. So I now repeat: BUYER BEWARE BEFORE YOU BUY A USED CAR FROM SKY MOTORWORKS, 2305 WHITFIELD PARK DRIVE, SARASOTA, FL More
