Good deal, but bumpy transaction I purchased a vehicle with Serra Kia of Trussville because I found the vehicle featured online and at a very fair price. I contacted the dealership an I purchased a vehicle with Serra Kia of Trussville because I found the vehicle featured online and at a very fair price. I contacted the dealership and James O was very helpful over email and on the phone. I scheduled to drive the vehicle with James, but as the appointment approached, James kindly advised me that he may not be able to keep the appointment personally because an earlier transaction was delaying. I decided to keep the appointment anyway because my schedule was extremely tight and I knew I would not be able to return to Trussville. James introduced us to his colleague, and the other salesperson was pleasant but not extremely helpful in the transaction or in demonstrating the vehicle or talking about the vehicle's history. Although his apathetic demeanor did not surprise me given that this was not his deal, I would have waited for James if I knew that my experience was going to be a burden on someone else. We negotiated briefly, but I knew the deal was already pretty good, so we agreed on a price and I advised the salesperson that I was going to be financing the vehicle with my own credit union. He made a mild attempt at acquiring my financing business with another CU offer, but the rate was higher, so it was a no brainer to stay with my CU. I sat with the F&I sales agent, and we exchanged small talk over a brief set of documents and signatures. I then took delivery of the vehicle that evening with the expectation that I would secure the financing with my CU and complete the process. The overall process that evening was painless, but also it was not a pleasure given that I was buying a used car for just over $20,000 - I've experienced better service with hotels where a night is only $120. I left that evening with a partially filled gas tank (why not fill it up?) and drove the vehicle home. However, it is what occurred over the next few days that disappointed me. My CU attempted over the next two days to obtain the documentation from the F&I department and finally the sales manager with persistent calls and follow up emails in order to complete my loan financing. After my own follow up emails to the dealership, James was able to goad whoever it was that needed to send over the title application to the CU. Later on, I discovered that I was not provided a copy of the title application, and that the odometer statement was incorrect (mileage was not updated to reflect the higher actual mileage at sale). This in turn resulted in me having to obtain a copy of the title application from my (awesome) credit union in order to register my vehicle with the department of revenue, since it was omitted from my initial paperwork and I needed it to register the vehicle. In closing, the overall purchase experience was tepid at best, and the documentation experience was a fail. I received multiple requests from Summer and Todd for feedback immediately following my purchase, but I was reluctant in doing so because I knew that buying a car is more than just a quick negotiation and handshake - it has to follow through on (legally) making the car your own, and this is exactly where in my previous experiences dealerships have stumbled in their service. This was no exception. I hope that the management reading this review help both motivate and encourage their sales staff (besides James, he is a class act) to care individually about each client they assist, and the management to do so with both diligence and conscientiousness. Also, the management should be more aware of the overall culture and morale of their sales team. I sensed a general malaise and discontent at Serra, with employees enduring 12 hr, 6 day workweeks and struggling to keep motivated so it no surprise. I will not be returning to Serra Kia, unfortunately. More
