Never buy a used car at Robert Brogden I recently bought a used Miata that I 'thought' I had paid $11,500, however it will end up costing me over $13,757. On the drive home from picking up I recently bought a used Miata that I 'thought' I had paid $11,500, however it will end up costing me over $13,757. On the drive home from picking up the car my wife noticed a problem to the convertibles roof. I called my salesman to explain the issue and after he saw the issue he escalates me to the head of their sales department a Mr. Kelly Harper. (My salesman was GREAT and a joy to work with - he even offered to pay for part of the repair out of his own pocket - it's too bad the rest of his organization does not work that way) Mr. Harper schedules a meeting where he wants to see the car. When I bring the car in Mr. Harper has his mechanic review the issue and suggests I take it to a local garage for an estimate, then forward the estimate to him to review (the estimate was $2257). While the Brogden's mechanic was inspecting my car I explained to Mr. Harper that I was told the car had had a mechanical review prior to my purchase and the car was in good mechanical condition. I further explained that the roof was mechanical and I believe I was lied to about the condition of the car. Mr. Harper tells me they do not sell many Miata's so they are not experts on the car and they didn't have the ability to find this problem. He further tells me I should have taken it to a Mazda dealership prior to my purchase for a complete inspection. If that is really how Brogden's believes sales of their used cars should be done, they REALLY need to make their salesman aware of that policy. I know I would have never purchased it from them if they 'do not have the expertise on Mazda's' to do a complete mechanical inspection. It really leaves me with doubts about what else is wrong with this car that I will find out later (the battery died during the test drive - I wonder what's next). Based on Mr. Harper's statement - you can conclude that any used car bought from them that is not a Buick or GMC should not be considered to have had a full mechanical inspection. The bottom line, I have not spoken to Mr. Harper since our initial meeting and he isn't even professional enough to return my phone calls. My next escalation was to the General Manager, Craig Blacklidge. I have a very pleasant conversation with Mr. Blacklidge where he assures me someone would be in touch with me in the near future to discuss this issue - I never hear back from anyone again. He even had the audacity to email me a sales brochure, but when I emailed him asking for followup, he has chose not to respond. I find it unbelievable that Brogden is selling any used vehicle that that isn't a Buick or GMC - since they aren't 'experts' on other types of vehicles. The mechanical inspection that was performed on my car was obviously not thorough (the battery died on the test drive - which they replaced) and they missed a $2257 roof issue. If having 2 mechanical issues with the car isn't bad enough, the lack of professional manner in which 2 senior level employees have made the problem even more frustrating -be a professional, return calls and address the issues.
