Unpleasant Sales Experience I have been warned by friends, family and coworkers on NUMEROUS occasions to stay away from the Puente Hills Toyota dealership because they have the w I have been warned by friends, family and coworkers on NUMEROUS occasions to stay away from the Puente Hills Toyota dealership because they have the worst customer service. However, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them a try. On 6/21/2019, I requested a quote for a 2019 4Runner TRD Off Road vehicle and within minutes, I received a response from Bijan Khounani via email. I asked for a base model TRD Off Road to include a few standard accessories. Instead, he quoted me on a premium model without the accessories I requested, but included other accessories that I did not request. I brought that to his attention and asked if he could provide a new quote to include the “out the door” cost with what I requested. Days have passed. I have yet to receive a reply. I suppose he didn’t care for my sale. I then decided to visit the dealership. William Shen was my sales representative. I expressed what I wanted: 4Runner TRD Off Road…no leather seats, no moon roof. He only had the TRD Off Road Premium available. Since they didn’t have my model available, I mention I was also open to the SR5 base model (that I was standing next to). He brushed that off and was persistent with the TRD Off Road Premium. I reinforced that I do not want leather seats or a moon roof. Right away, his demeanor became very cold. The difference between the standard TRD Off Road and the TRD Off Road Premium is simply that the Premium has upgraded leather heated seating and a moon roof. I still requested to test drive the premium. William’s response was, “Why would I let you test drive a car that you’re not going to buy?!” Shocked by his response, I asked, “Isn’t the drive and engine the same as the standard TRD Off Road since its ultimately the same vehicle?” He simply said, “Yes”. And I replied, “well if it’s the same, why can’t I test drive the car?” (If he wanted my sale, shouldn’t he offer to locate my vehicle from another dealership, as I’ve experienced from past vehicle purchases?) After having to convince him to allow me to test drive the car, I asked a few standard questions during the drive, such as: which vehicles offer the 3rd row seating option? His response, “I don’t’ know”. (You’re a sales person. Shouldn’t you know?) In asking other questions, it felt like I was trying to dig for answers as his responses were all short and stand off-ish. He pretty much gave me the impression that I was wasting his time. As I was open to both the base SR5 and the base TRD off Road, I was hoping he would provide me with more information to guide me towards making a buying decision. Overall, I was disappointed with his unwillingness to inform or help, how he tried to up sale on a vehicle that I did not want and his lack of quality customer service. From past experiences with other vehicles I have purchased, sales representatives from other dealerships were always accommodating in trying to locate the requested vehicle from other dealerships. In dealing with the internet fleet manager and in person sales at the Puente Hills dealership, it seems like all they want to do is up sale. If they do not have what you are asking for in their lot, they could care less about you; talk about building relationships and creating loyal customers… Few others have also shared their experiences at the Puente Hills Toyota dealership with me. Below are a few examples. • My coworker, who did her due diligence to learn about the car buying industry, financing options as well as researched the vehicle of choice was degraded at this dealership. She was told that she doesn’t know anything about buying a car or financing a car. Instead of talking things over with her, the sales representative turned over to her husband and asked for his input instead. Because of the treatment she received, she went elsewhere to purchase her car. • My husband had tried to negotiate for a lower price on a Tacoma. He was shunned and told by their sales representative in a condescending manner: “good luck in getting your car in that price – cause that’s not gonna happen”. – When in fact, my husband was able to get the car and price he wanted at another dealership. Although each dealership is privately owned, this dealership still represents the Toyota brand. Based on the continuous pattern of unexceptional behavior they call “customer service”, this can easily sway customers from going with the Toyota brand. I hope this raises more awareness that this is unacceptable. Based upon the reviews I’ve seen on Yelp.com, it appears that numerous customers are receiving these types of treatment as well. I hope that the management team takes corrective action to improve their quality of service and hope they work together to better serve towards Toyota’s Mission and Vision Statement: "To attract and attain customers with high-valued products and services and the most satisfying ownership experience in America."
