I also believe that word of mouth is still the best way to let people know how good a business is, and how they operate. If you have experienced the same, or similar, issues with Priority, I strongly encourage you to tell people about it so that they do not make the same mistake of bringing their business to Priority Toyota. I have a ton of experience dealing with Priority Toyota as I have been with them for over 20 years. I have first hand witnessed the slow progression of Priority from a very good dealership, to the abysmal business that it is today. Priority Toyota Chesapeake VA is absolutely the worst, and I am leaving this review to warn anyone who is planning on purchasing a Toyota, to stay away from Priority. Their service department is very poorly run, and their staff within the service department lack character, decency, truth, and integrity. I have purchased about 7 vehicles from Priority Toyota over the years. Their sales and service departments used to be equally awesome many years ago. Over time that has changed, and their service department has now become unbearable to deal with. There are so many poor incidents that I have had with Priority recently, that I don't have the time to name them all. When I purchased my first car from Toyota, a Corolla, many years ago I would spend on average about 30 to 45 minutes to get my vehicle serviced. That is when they were in their old building on S. Military Hwy closer to Old Greenbrier Rd. The dealership has grow quite a bit since then, they have sold a lot of cars and trucks, they have a much larger building, but their service can't keep up with their sales and their customers suffer while they make their profits. I now wait on average much closer to 3 hours for my vehicle to get serviced. And some of that is just routine service. In 2016 I purchased a brand new Tacoma from Priority. I bought a truck bed cover from them as well that I paid them to install. I had an appointment set up for the installation. I arrived on time and sat in the lounge for almost 2 hours before they called me back to inform me that the truck bed cover was broken prior to them trying to install it. It took them a full 2 hours just to notice the bed cover that they had ordered was broken. They had to order another one, and I had to come back on a different day to get that new one installed. Two hours wasted, with an appointment for the installation job. I once brought that same new Tacoma in for a state inspection and an oil change. I also had set up an appointment for both of those things. The individual I spoke to on the phone had told me that they could do them both. When the service was done, I drove my truck off the lot only to notice that the state inspection had not been completed. I brought the truck back and spoke to the service advisor who was extremely unhelpful and rude. She told me that they were booked up for the day regarding the inspections. I was never advised of that on the phone when I scheduled the appt. I asked her for the name of someone who I could voice my displeasure with and she told me that she could not provide me with that information. She said that I had to go to the sales department for that. Just an attempt to give me the run around. A practice that is prevalent with the staff at Priority Toyota. I most recently purchased a brand new 2020 Toyota Avalon (which will be the last vehicle I ever purchase from this dishonest company EVER again!) in January. Four months later the battery died. I spoke to one of the service managers and he advised me that I could bring it in and that they would provide me with a loaner car, and that my Avalon would be put on the top of their list. I had brought it in in the early morning, and I did not receive a call from the that it was fixed until around 3:30 pm. And it was just a bad battery. It took them almost 7 hours to replace a bad battery, and my vehicle was supposedly put at the top of their list. That service manager did nothing but lie. When I went to pick up my Avalon the service advisor told me not to worry, that there would be no charge. He spoke to me like they were doing me a favor. The vehicle was still under full warranty. It was just 4 months old. No joke there would be no charge! I had also made the unfortunate mistake of recommending Priority to my sister and parents, who both purchased new vehicles from that dealership. My parents purchased a 2020 Rav4 in February. Last week they went out to start it and it would not start. The car was just 5 months old. I decided to help them out by contacting Priority Toyota and setting up the appointment to get the vehicle fixed. I spoke to the service advisor and she promised me that my parents car would be their priority, that it would not just sit on the lot waiting to get serviced, that once it was towed to their dealership they would put it at the top of their list. That was a lie. It has been one and a half days since it was towed to the dealership and their vehicle is still not fixed. One of the service managers asked if my parents drive their vehicle enough. That is the most ignorant question I think they could ever ask. If I were to purchase a brand new car, a 2020 model in 2020 that had never been owned by anyone else, and I were to put it in a garage away from all of the elements (my parent's vehicles are garage kept) for 6 months, I would expect that when I went out to start it, not having started it in that 6 month time frame, that the vehicle SHOULD start. If Priority is saying that the vehicles that they sell cannot preform in that fashion, then they are selling total junk. Now keep in mind that my parents have driven their Rav4 quite a few times since they purchased it. I am just stating a hypothetical situation that should still be true. Apparently, according to one of Priority's service managers, Toyota manufactures garbage, they sell that garbage, and do not stand behind the garbage that they sell. My sister had also purchased a new vehicle from Priority. She purchased a Corolla. At that time I still owned my Tacoma. It just so happened that on the day that she purchased her Corolla, I had a service appointment for just an oil change for my Tacoma. Long story short, she almost beat me out of that dealership and she purchased a brand new car. I just had an oil change. She had arrived at the dealership prior to me, but not by a substantial amount of time. My point is, that is how long some of their service appointments last. It's that bad. There have been so many times where I have either been at the dealership, or called the dealership to try and get an email address for the owner of Priority, Dennis Ellmer Not one staff member has been willing to give me Dennis Ellmer's email address so I can notify him of just how poorly his business is being run. I have asked at least 3 of the mangers that work with Priority, as well as other Priority staff, but none of them would provide me with his email address. They all refused. Dennis Ellmer If you ever get a chance to read this, those people who work at your dealership are a direct reflection of you. You are what your company hires and promotes, and they are a very dishonest bunch with little to no character at all. I could site so many more examples of how bad Priority Toyota is, but that should be enough for anyone to understand just what kind of business that they run. I will never recommend Priority to anyone ever again. In fact, I will strongly discourage anyone from using that dealership. My name is Donald Austin and I am the writer of this review. More
