I have had three Honda Accords over the years, and bought my last one in 2000, after someone ran into and totaled the 10-year-old Accord I was driving at the time. Needless to say, I’ve been pleased with the reliability of Hondas we have owned, and the way they held their value. However, my daughter and her husband had both bought pre-owned, certified Lexus automobiles, and were very happy with them. After riding in my daughter’s 2004 4-door sedan a number of times and being impressed by the quality, I decided that my next car would be a Lexus to replace my 2000 Honda Accord EX-VL, 4-door sedan. On 5/12/12, my husband called Charles Barker Lexus of Newport News to ask if they could transfer a certain certified, pre-owned model from another dealer. He talked with Viki East, Sales Manager, who invited us to visit the showroom. There we met Viki, and discussed our preferences. She referred us to John Keck, Sales Consultant, so we could test drive a 2010 ES 350. We were impressed with the ease of handling and quiet, smooth ride. John explained a number of features while we were driving. We went back to the showroom to look at several other used cars; however, we could not find one with an exterior and interior color combination that we liked. Viki suggested we consider a 2012 ES 350 because the price was not a great deal more than the used car prices, and we would have a new car warranty. My husband and I usually buy new cars, and felt better considering that option. We discussed color preferences, price, trade-in value for our old car, etc. Viki made a few phone calls while we looked at cars with John, and found what we wanted at another dealer. With our approval, she ordered it shipped to Newport News. It is handsome! John demonstrated the many features, and took us for a demo drive. He also explained the Extended Service Contract, which we purchased. We have always been very diligent about maintaining our vehicles, and he did not exert any pressure. Jim Hernandez, Vice President/General Manager, introduced himself and gave us his business card. We met Thomas Calhoon, Business Manager, who completed the paperwork, as well as Billy, who would do the detail work (Xzilon). Everyone was very friendly, professional, and worked as a well-functioning team. We have been very pleased with the Lexus and with Charles Barker Lexus of Newport News. We would definitely recommend the dealer unequivocally. NOTE: The Dealer Review is a cumbersome process, and there is no reward for the customer spending their time on extended comments. You might get more input if it were simplified. More

We went to many dealers and had the traditional car buying experience with the "classic cheese ball salesmen", mark ups over MSRP and a whole host of other half truths about cars and or the deal itself buying experience with the "classic cheese ball salesmen", mark ups over MSRP and a whole host of other half truths about cars and or the deal itself. When we first met Brad Rose he was different, no pressure, straight shooter, extremely knowledgable. The car we purchased fit about 80% of what we wanted, the reason we came back and purchased the CT200 from Charles Barker was Brad and his approach to selling cars. More

Hat's off and A++ Service, my buying experience from Charles Barker Lexus and Mohamad was wonderful, even though it wasn't a Lexus that I purchased. I was on my way to shop and lunch with my husband Charles Barker Lexus and Mohamad was wonderful, even though it wasn't a Lexus that I purchased. I was on my way to shop and lunch with my husband on a sunny 80 degree day and that convertible just called out to me. So we stopped to take a look at it, ended up taking it for a few hour test drive, came back and wrote up the deal. I wasn't in the market for a car that day: You might say the car found me!! I felt NO PRESSURE at anytime during the process, even when I was doing the paperwork. It was very easy, not hassle!! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this dealership if you are in the market for a car and want a great car buying experience. More
I met Kevin Morgan at church a few months ago & expressed an interest in buying a pre-owned Lexus. He was diligent in contacting me by phone & email informing me about what was available. He was very patient w/ me as I wavered about what I was looking for & what would suit my budget. When he recently called me again, he suggested I make an appointment to come in to the dealership to see some options he had found for me. He took a lot of time going over my needs,wants,budget and explained why one car might be a better option for me versus another car. When I test drove a car, he thoroughly explain all the details, mechanisms & advantages of the vehicle. Deciding to buy the car he suggested, he help me negotiate a price I felt was fair & affordable for me. He also discussed available financing & interest rates & explained the next steps to purchase the car. While my new car was being washed, etc. he showed me the service area & introduced me to the service staff. Everyone was very friendly, professional & welcomed me to the family! Everyone took time to acknowledge me, even other salespeople. The icing on the cake was when Mr. Morgan said your car is ready & I walked around the cubicle to find a sparkling clean car in the showroom w/ a big red bow. What a presentation-it left me speechless! I have owned Camrys for decades & have wanted a Lexus for years. Sorry I waited so long, but am so delighted w/ my new car & the whole experience-it was all outstanding. I especially appreciate Mr. Morgan's expertise & all the time & effort he gave me. Thank you. This is my fifth Lexus; my second from Newport News Charles Barker. Mohammad made the process easy; he is outstanding in every way. He should be driving a new demo (or certainly a late model year demo) Lexus product. He embodies the "relentless pursuit of perfection" with the exception of the vehicle he drives. Lexus should see to it that this top sales employee for two consecutive years drives a demo product representative of that which he sells so well. In fact, I have gone to other dealers due to their very poor customer service and poor business practices. Mr Thornton singlehandedly turned my previous poor experiences to more than I could have hoped. I was treated as if I were the only customer he had. Between Mr Thornton and Mr Mayassi, I was treated like they would treat their family. I am extremely happy with both of them and anticipate an excellent working relationship in the future. I can't say enough positive things about this General Sales Manager and Sales Consultant. My only negative comment would be to not have been able to get the color vehicle I wanted. Timing is everything and trying to get the desired vehicle at the end of the year wasn't possible. They did everything else to make up for this...including bringing the car on the showroom floor and putting a very large bow on it.....Very nice touch!!!!! More
My car buying experience at your dealership was very good. Initial contact with sales person: Sales rep was in the parking lot but wasn't overly bearing (very important). He was very knowledgeable of the products found at this particular location. He was very skilled at how to earn my business. (A less qualified sales rep would have lost this deal)!! Dealership appearance: outside grounds and parking lot was clean, well organized and easy to navigate through. Inside appearance was clean, good lighting throughout. All workers on call appeared to have a "purpose". Some engaged in friendly conversation among themselves which gave the impression they enjoyed working at this storefront. Loan Process: Relatively quick...Wish customer had the option of filing out the loan application electronically while at the dealership…Would be more user friendly for both the customer and I‘m sure the back office personnel would appreciate not having to decipher my “chicken scratch” handwriting. Onsite loan officer: Friendly, he gets high marks on his level of knowledge. More
