Unprofessional, hidden fees, incorrect numbers My salesman pulled a car to the front for me to look at. We went inside for a few minutes, then came back out for a test drive and the car was gone. My salesman pulled a car to the front for me to look at. We went inside for a few minutes, then came back out for a test drive and the car was gone. About 10 minutes later, another salesman pulls up with his McDonalds. No new car smell this time, it smelled like french fries. I made an offer and it was accepted, or so they said. They weren't very quick to show me the bottom line but spent plenty of time trying to sell me undercoating, additional warranties, eight hundred dollar scotchguard treatments, etc. They wanted me to sign 20 pages of disclosures and everything else but still wouldn't come up with the loan terms or the final price. When the finance guy finally pulled out the paper with the final price, it wasn't the offer I made and included multiple additional fees. The calculations were not correct and they even tried to charge me 1.5% more tax than they should have. I stated that the paperwork was incorrect and that wasn't the offer I made. The finance guy left the office for 1 minute, came back, pointed at the paper and said that was it, basically a take it or leave it. I got up to leave and the sales manager started to argue with me. I stated that even the taxes were wrong, he stated that they were correct, even though he didn't actually look at it to begin with. I didn't care to argue about it and said I was leaving, however, he was determined to argue and made a few comments which I did not appreciate. I ended up walking away. I emailed the company the next day to let them know about my experience. The sales manager called me and attempted to continue the argument, deny that he made certain comments then told me that I obviously wanted that car or I wouldn't have emailed the company, then tried to get me to proceed with the deal. I did communicate with the general manager through email about the situation. He attempted to make it better and offered me a final "out the door" price that was a little over what my original offer should have been. The GM did offer an apology (but was still trying to close the deal more than apologize) and I do have to say that my salesman was great. I ended up going to a different dealership and ended up with a MUCH better deal as I paid less and got the same car with more features and less mileage. The other dealership actually advertised a price that includes all of the dealer doc fees. They also weren't so worried about selling me warranties and undercoating/fabric protection packages but spent more time making sure I understood the certified car process, certification inspection, etc. Interestingly, I emailed Priority Hampton about a car in their inventory before I even contacted the one in Chesapeake. I received a follow up email from the Hampton location a couple days after my experience in Chesapeake. I responded to the Hampton email with a brief summary of what happened and why I wouldn't be a Priority customer. The Hampton location responded that there appears to be a really high employee turnover rate in Chesapeake so that might have something to do with it and that most of the sales staff in Hampton have been there for years. I think it is very telling with other dealerships under the same owner make statements like that. More
