We are sorry to hear about the passing of your long time local mechanic. In hopes to understand the fee that you were charged, we pulled up the service records to review what our technicians did in order to diagnose your vehicle. The fee was due to the following work: Upon investigation, we performed a road test with the vehicle's owner and they demonstrated activation of the left front anti-lock brake system (ABS) during slow speed stopping when no wheel lock occurred. A visual inspection of the left front ABS system revealed that the magnet pickup was a non-original equipment part that was not mounted flush with the knuckle assembly. We removed the sensor and cleaned the knuckle of rust build up to decrease the tolerance between the pickup sensor and the exciter ring. Following completion, we road tested the vehicle for several miles while performing frequent slow speeds stops. At no point did we replicate abnormal ABS system activation.
