Fantastic service for out-of-staters! Our family was driving from Connecticut to Maine when our 2011 XC90 started making a funny sound. At the halfway point, we called Portland Volvo to ask if maybe they could take a look. This was Friday at around 3 pm. Lisa from the Service Dept. answered the phone and was extremely professional and sweet, but informed us there were no open spots that day. She suggested we leave the car overnight and maybe someone would get to it on Saturday. She even suggested a rental car dealership nearby. Nervous that we were going to do more damage if we tried to drive it home to get it looked at, we followed her advice and were surprise when she called early on Saturday to tell us that they squeezed our car in, and discovered the problem (I believe Walt was the technician who made the time for for our ER car visit. He could have gone for an extra long coffee break instead, so we appreciate it.) Lisa had all our paperwork taken care of when we arrived for pick up (just as they were closing), there was no push for extra work, and we drove away relieved and grateful. Portland Volvo saved our short weekend vacation and treated us Flatlanders just as kindly and respectfully as I'm sure they do their regular customers. Highly recommend. More

Refreshingly great car buying experience My wife and I drove 2 1/2 hours to test drive a car and I am glad we did. I had previously emailed Colin Mack and he introduced me to Michael Pierter. Well, that was easy Let's face it: Car dealers are viewed by some Americans right up there with lobbyists. But, unlike lobbyists, the car dealer/salesperson can make a po Let's face it: Car dealers are viewed by some Americans right up there with lobbyists. But, unlike lobbyists, the car dealer/salesperson can make a positive difference in an individual's life. And, that's the way I felt with Ralph at Portland Volvo. Here is the short story: First, always do your homework. I looked at top dealers in the area, with, of course, Volvo at the top of that list. I knew what I wanted, recognized and stuck to my budget, knew my time availability, and sought out the type of personality who would shepherd me through this process. To buy a car, you must know your values and your limitations. But, don't be an xxx. Be realistic, a quality necessary in any car purchase. I looked online at the PV inventory on a Friday. I wanted a pre-owned and so there was some limit to my search. I looked at it (without interference) on a Sunday. On Monday, I went in, saw Ralph sitting at his desk (For some reason unknown to me, I bypassed the others at their desks, even though I had no strategy) and approached him for preliminary information. He was more than happy, the auto-cheerleader that he is! I told him some of my financial expectations and he seemed amenable (I didn't want a car payment so was working on a unique financial situation with some money put on my credit card and the rest in cash). I told him I would call him later in the day. Of course, salespeople hear that all the time, I'm sure, but Ralph was gracious and gave me his card. I called him later, asked him to test drive it, and returned to PV. The car was great, even though it was a used vehicle. During the drive, Ralph gave me some pointers on the car and even its history. In the end, I ended up purchasing it. That was Monday. On Thursday, the car was ready--as was my payment. The entire journey lasted less than a week. No hassle. No distrust. Nothing but an other-centered sales guy who, it happened, had pictures on his desk of the same people I liked! Finally, Jason was more than accommodating. I rarely, if ever find financial people all that captivating (they work with numbers), but this guy was engaging. I found him to be as pressure-free as Ralph! Just an all-around good guy, without doubt. I have driven a Mercedes for years and years. I am now part of the Volvo family, appreciated the time and authenticity given to me, and feel 100 percent satisfied with the purchase (That's the FIRST time I've ever written that line, btw!). In retrospect, it seemed so easy... More
