Worst service experience ever My Santa Fe's engine (with 70,000 miles) seized up while en-route from PA to Chincoteague, VA. We were towed to Pohanka, the nearest dealer, where we had to leave the car to be diagnosed and go on in a rental car. They promised a phone call by the end of the next day to let us know what was going on, but didn't call. In fact, we were forced to get our service manager from back home to intervene for us just to get some information. This was the way our experience with Pohanka began, and this is the way it continued for ONE MONTH while they waited for multiple warranty "adjustors", decided on a course of action (new engine? used engine? reconditioned engine?), looked for a used engine to install, and then finally (3 weeks later) began the installation. In all that time, they never ONCE contacted us to give us an update, despite our numerous calls and requests for information . Finally, we were told that the engine had arrived and would be installed and ready for us 3 days from then. I called again to confirm this 2 days later, as it was a 2 1/2 hour for me to get there, and I was assured that we could pick it up the next day. I drove down, and when almost there called to see if the car was ready. The assistant service manager said it was out on a test drive and would be back in a matter of minutes. When I arrived at the dealership, I was told there was a "little problem" that had to be worked out -- the "Check Engine" light had come on during the test drive, and they had found that the oil intake (pump?valve?) was bad and had to be replaced. Unfortunately, they did not have the part in stock. I observed them calling various places to locate one with no luck, and requested a car so that I could go to lunch while they worked it out. I was given a loaner. A little under 2 hours later, I got a call that the car was ready to go. I went back, and as I was being handed the key, a technician came out and said that he "just (had) to check one more thing". He took the keys and the car back into the garage. Meanwhile, the assistant service manager had me sign several papers, but said he couldn't give me a copy right then to take with me; he said they would mail it later. (I didn't ask where they found the part that they couldn't locate before I left.) I took my car, and was about 7 miles away when the Check Engine light came on. I called and was told that I should just take it to my own "guy" at my dealership in PA -- he would know exactly what it was. When I did take it in to my dealership's service department 2 days later, it only took them a matter of hours to determine that Pohanka had installed a bad engine. They gave me a loaner car, and are now involved in the process of haggling once again with warranty adjustors to get the matter resolved. I will probably be without my car for at least another week. To add insult to injury, the Pohanka Service Manager called my husband's cell two days after I had picked up the car with the defective engine installed; she said she just wanted to "check in and make sure everything was okay with your vehicle." I was flabbergasted, as I had called her the night of the entire incident and left her a detailed message telling her what had happened and how unhappy we were with the way things had been handled. I have had many cars over my lifetime, but NEVER have had worse service ANYWHERE than at Pohanka. In fact, this is the first review of this type that I have ever written. Perhaps customers from the Salisbury area get better service? More
Unexpected tire issue leads to great service. On a day trip from our Carroll County home to Salisbury to visit our son at Salisbury University, we got a flat tire just outside of Salisbury. Calli On a day trip from our Carroll County home to Salisbury to visit our son at Salisbury University, we got a flat tire just outside of Salisbury. Calling several tire stores no one had our tires. We decided to try the dealer. We were immediately greeted by Charlie who assured us all would be fine. What we thought would be a 2 hour wait while we had 2 tires replaced, mounted balanced, etc., Charlie immediately had us shuttled to the campus telling us to relax and enjoy the time with our son, and let him worry about the car. By the time we were ready to go, the shuttle was back to pick us up and our car was ready, additionally Charlie took car of a recall issue without out us asking prior too! Great initiative! For a bad situation, the experience of getting it resolved was great...all due to Charlie...Thanks Pohanka! More
