I’ll preface this review with - not all dealerships have mastered online sales. Unfortunately, Springfield Nissan falls in that category. I’ve purchased my last three vehicles completely online and visited mastered online sales. Unfortunately, Springfield Nissan falls in that category. I’ve purchased my last three vehicles completely online and visited the dealership to sign and take possession of my vehicle. The sales staff at Springfield met my inquiry on a 2023 Nissan Maxima Platinum with skepticism and initially refused to honor the Edmunds.com advertised price. To their credit they eventually came around to a great final price on the car honoring the Edmunds ad. Once we agreed on their car’s final price, I introduced my trade in and provided the dealer with JD Power & Associate’s trade in value for my vehicle - in excellent, average and poor condition. To clarify, my 2020 Toyota Prius Prime Limited is valued between $29k-34k with the higher number for private sale. My car has under 10k miles per year -28k - and is in pristine condition. The dealership offered a poultry $26k as their highest offer. Had I accepted, the dealer would have robbed me of thousands of dollars in equity and forced me to shell out a heftier cash down payment for their vehicle. All to say, it’s much easier to see honest salesmanship when you clearly split the sale and trade in deal. Separately, I was a bit rattled by a comment by the salesman who said, “we want to be sure you’re not playing games so that’s why our communication is delayed.” Games? Offensive and rude, but a clear indicator that online sales and informed buyers are not Springfield’s average customer. Their website speaks of transparency, honesty and good customer service. I’d say they have some work to do to make that slogan a reality. The moral of the story is, spend your money where you’re respected and where the dealership is ethical, honest and not trying to make a cash grab right before you sign. More
