When i arrived i was greeted by a smiling Colleen Consalo who inspected my car and guided me through the the expected service. I was lead to the waiting room, got a cup of coffee and found a spot to do some work on my computer. Before long service was complete and I was guided to a freshly washed and serviced Highlander. Could not be better. More

I was immediately greeted and directed to a service provider. Colleen was warm, friendly and personable. She went above and beyond to insure I was informed, properly advised of the needs of my vehicle and comfortable with the recommended service. Colleen could basically teach classes on how to deliver excellence in customer service. Amazing! The vehicle was serviced, washed and completed in less time than originally suggested. To my great surprise, I received a complimentary manicure while the car was being service. From start to finish this was the absolute best auto service experience. Looking forward to my next visit. Thank you, Newark Toyota World for truly exceeding expectations! More

Car was not ready to be picked up until 3:30 pm, that's about 8 hours for a 90 minute job, I believe. I find it unconscionable that you do not perform work when scheduled. If you weren't going to get to my car first thing in the morning, why did you make an appointment for first thing? And then when I tried to pay, there was a customer ahead of me, which is fine, but then a buddy of the "service manager" walked to the head of the line and started to chat. I ended up asking somebody else if they would please retried the paper work so I could pay and go home. Once upon a time, when my car was serviced, I went to the cashier and was done in minutes. Now it is necessary to see the "service manager" before paying. Why? Also, it appears that whenever I take a car in for routine maintenance, Toyota tries to sell me an unnecessary extra. Once it was a cabin air filter, another time you wanted to replace the headlight lenses because they were a little discolored. These are not safety issues, they're barely cosmetic, and unwanted. Your newly renovated and expanded facility is very nice but your service has gone way downhill. More
Another disappointing experience with Newark Toyota World I have purchased vehicles at Newark Toyota since 1994 based largely on the weekend service hours and the quality of service that I've received from th I have purchased vehicles at Newark Toyota since 1994 based largely on the weekend service hours and the quality of service that I've received from the service department. Over the years, I seldom received anything resembling subpar service until recently. This is my second bad experience in less than two years and, quite honestly, it has me re-thinking my commitment to this dealership. On Wednesday morning, 8/10, my truck’s engine began making a whining sound that began when the vehicle was started and in park. The whining continued and increased as RPMs increased, even though the vehicle was otherwise running normally. I suspected that the noise could be a serpentine belt or maybe the water pump. I phoned the service department and was pleased that I could bring my vehicle during lunch. I didn’t necessarily expect a diagnosis that afternoon, even though my service manager, Jamar Campbell, indicated that they could possible get to it. I received no call from Jamar that afternoon, so I assumed that I would get a call on Thursday. When I didn’t receive a call on Thursday morning, I phoned at 11:30 a.m. to check the status. I was unable to reach Jamar and left a voice mail. I received no call back and phoned again at 1:00 p.m. and left a second voice mail message. If my truck wasn’t going to be ready that day I needed to make arrangements to rent a vehicle until it could be fixed. When I didn’t receive a call, I phoned for a third time at 3:30 p.m. This time the phone attendant tracked down Jamar. When I spoke with Mr. Campbell, he informed me that a tech had looked at the vehicle and determined that the whining sound was coming from the transmission. The fix would be a new reconditioned transmission at approximately $5,500. The other option would be a used transmission at roughly half the price. Jamar offered to make a phone call to the supplier to see if a used transmission would be available. He called me back within the hour to tell me that he had located a used transmission. Given the cost, I decided to reconsider and later that evening decided to have the vehicle evaluated by a transmission expert. I took my vehicle to a Newark area transmission specialist on Thursday evening. On Friday morning, they evaluated vehicle and determined that the whining sound was not coming from the transmission but, instead, was coming from the engine. On Monday, 8/15, I took my truck to another service shop that I trusted in Wilmington. By that afternoon, they identified the problem as the alternator. They switched out the alternator and belt and the vehicle is running fine. If Newark Toyota competently diagnosed the issue from the start, they could have likely had my truck repaired on Friday. Instead, I paid out $90 for that misdiagnosis and another $90 to have a transmission specialist rule out a transmission problem. In the process, I also had to rent a car while my truck was being properly diagnosed and repaired by another mechanic. It was a little irritated that I did not receive responses from the service manager to my voice mails. When I did finally did get to speak with Mr. Campbell, he was pleasant and helpful. My bigger issue was with the misdiagnosis. In this case, had I trusted your service department’s troubleshooting, I would have paid for a $3000-$5000 transmission install and would have still had the alternator whine. Needless to say, after two recent bad experiences, I’ve lost a lot of trust in Newark Toyota World’s service department. I feel like I can’t depend on the service staff for a timely call back or an effective diagnosis. After more than 20 years of purchasing and having vehicles serviced at your dealership, that’s really disappointing. At a minimum, I hope that you’ll at least consider refunding the charge I paid for the misdiagnosis. More
