It’s a strange time to buy a car. No one is functioning at full capacity during shelter-at-home so my experience may have been impacted by that and I know it. I had some contact with Internet sales as I was doing my research to buy a car when my 12-year-old Honda finally needed more repair than it made sense to pay for. I scheduled a test drive, as one does these days, as there was a car at Molle Toyota that caught my eye. I showed up to an appointment that was set with an Internet Manager who passed my appointment to someone else without informing me. I did not appreciate that. Fortunately, the used car salesman/manager I worked with instead was kind, patient and helpful. He did what was needed to assess my car for trade in, offered a fair prices, and helped me prep for my test drive in a hybrid as I was unfamiliar with them. I had a wonderful experience with him, and made the purchase I did due to my interaction with him. It was, however, frustrating to go into my meeting with the financial person to find some of the things I discussed in sales different, such as the low interest rate I wanted not being set in stone and not being able to use the 90 day payment free incentive being advertised right now due to the lender used (the fine print, which was never discussed with my by the sales person). After that things were alright, but not nearly as connecting or helpful. It appeared that the financial person I spoke with tried to slip in a $1,400 warranty purchase without my knowing it, which I did not appreciate. He tried to negotiate a payment for it without telling me the full price, and seemed visibly annoyed when I said I did not want to purchase it. He also seemed annoyed when I reminded him I could go through my own bank to get a lower loan interest rate than what he was offering (which I had discussed with the sales person) and that was after he glossed over the exact interest rate (a full point higher than what I discussed with the sales person) to begin with. Would a man have been told that the finances would “just work themselves out” or that the interest rate was “4 and some change”? I don’t think so. Overall, I rate the experience as good, but that is heavily based on my interaction with the used car salesperson/manager. I am grateful for him, my newly purchased car, and a little more experience under my belt in dealing with car sales. Valuable lessons learned for next time. More

Nevertheless, the sounds of silence on a dead battery came as quite a surprise Friday morning. After a quick jump start from AAA, I was greeted by a hand-full of technicians at Molle Toyota Service Center like I had won a prize. No waiting! They appeared to be ready and eager to tackle any problem! The trip wire out front rang the bell, the glass garage door magically rose and I was waved all the way forward to what seemed to be a cheerful gaggle of guys assembling at the end of my run as if seeing “a car” was a sight for sore eyes.
