This is the worst dealer I ever visited. I met Ian on Tuesday night, and he was rude and insulting. He first wanted to "educate" me on supply-and-demand, which I skipped. I had been going to this dealership for servicing my car for the past 3 years. No more! Never going back again. Their service quality has been a complete rip-off. Initially i thought things were just going wrong with my car. But over the past 2 years i've realized that i've paid over $3,500 for the "similar" issue each time. My Check engine light came on, and they fixed it saying that xyz had gone wrong. Then after a couple of month, it came back up and they say not something else has gone wrong. This has now happened 5 times (and $3,500). Each time i'm told that they are not sure what was wrong and would charge me for the vehicle diagnostic test. Each time they came up with a different problem than the first one and told me that the previous fix did not solve the problem, and that we will have to try to fix this second problem too. This dealership is shady and have bad business practices. I would not trust this dealership with anything that they say. I went in to purchase a vehicle and was "talked into" putting a deposit so that they I would not trust this dealership with anything that they say. I went in to purchase a vehicle and was "talked into" putting a deposit so that they wouldn't sell the vehicle. I was told by the salesman that the deposit was refundable, I asked several times. I thought about the vehicle for 24 hours and decided that it wasn't the one for me. I called to have my deposit refunded. The salesman (Bob) told me that the finance manager wasn't there and that they could do it on Monday (this was a thursday that I called). I told Bob that that wasn't acceptable and wanted my money back, he said he would see what he could do. Bob called me a few hours later to say that the money had been refunded. On Monday I went to Torrington Toyota (who are FABULOUS) and purchased a car, gave a deposit and will be picking it up in 2 days. On Tuesday I found out that the money had not been refunded. I called Middletown Toyota at 7:00 p.m. and spoke to Bob and he said that there was nothing he could do at the time and he would look into it and to call in the morning. I called on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. and spoke to Bob again who told me that my reciept was mailed yesterday (Tuesday) and my money was refunded that day. I was angry and told Bob that he was not honest with me, I felt that Middletown Toyota was being shady and not trustworthy. Bob said that it was out of his control, not his fault and he assumed that they money was refunded on Thursday; Bob also said that it was a holiday weekend and the finance department had other things on their mind. I told him that when it came to my money and him telling me it was refunded that it doesn't matter what weekend it was. I called my bank in the afternoon and the money had still not been returned. I called Middletown Toyota back and spoke to the owner/manager Joe and he said that Bob was not authorized to credit accounts and that he would have to verify what I was saying and see if I was able to get a refund. This shocked me because when I left the deposit I was told that it was completely refundable. Joe said he'd call me back in an hour. I ended up calling him back, Joe told me that the money was refunded on Tuesday and had no reason for why it had not been refunded on Thursday like I was told. He was also unapologetic for what happened. Joe told me that the form I signed said my deposit was non-refundable, even though Bob told me it was. (By the way, by LAW a deposit is refundable. There is a branch of the DMV in Wethersfield that handles claims like this). I told Joe that his salesman lied to me, he was rude, and that I would let everyone I knew not to purchase a car from Middletown Toyota because they are bad businessmen. I felt that Joe was trying to bully me. Joe got upset with me when I told him I was going to contact Toyota corporate and the BBB. Joe insulted me several times and hung up on me. This dealership fits all of the stereotypes of a car salesman, they are sleazy and lie. I would not suggest this dealership to anyone I knew - ever. I have filed a complaint with Toyota. This is the first time i've purchaned a car on my own so i was a little nervous when it came to the particulars, working with the financial guy. He was not as easy to speak to and i was confused about what the deal would be finally and what i would owe. He brought the saleman back into his office three times and, what was supposed to be a quick visit took alot more time than i had, shortly before the holidays. I told them that i wanted a certain "out the door" price with my car and assumed that the price they gave would be reduced by the cost of my car. I was very frustrated and wanted to speak to my husband so, assuming i had time to cancel the deal, i signed the contract and gave them a $1,000 deposit on my credit card. I didn't want to use my card but the salesman had said not to worry because when i came back to complete the deal with a check for what i owed they'd remove the charge from my card. When i got home my husband saw that they weren't giving me the deal i imagained and that i would actually owe them the whole amount as my car was included in the price they gave me. I panicked and called the salesman that Monday, apoligizing for the misunderstanding and asking for my deposit back. He was very nice and said he'd get back to me. He didn't and i was concerned about my deposit and called a few more times. Finally, I reached him and he advised that I'd be hearing from the manager, which immediately raised a red flag to me. I had a feeling the news was not good. The Manager called shortly after that and he was extremely rude. Unfortunately, i don't recall his name. He said he didn't know what i expected them to do and that i took up his salesman's time and he needed to be compensated for that. I told him that i had hoped he would be a good guy and give me my deposit back and i'd come back after the holidays and work with them on another vehicle. He would not budge and told me he didn't see why they should return my deposit because "they hadn't done anything wrong". I agreed with him that they hadn't and hoped that he would understand that i was new at car buying and didn't understand. He said he'd be happy to apply the $1,000 dollars toward another vehicle, when i came back in. I was so upset. He also said that he didn't understand what his salesman had done wrong and i told him i didn't fault the saleman and that he was very nice. It was my inexperience and my misunderstanding of what the deal entailed. I figured i could talk to my husband and he'd tell me what to do or how to explain it better. Why would he think i'd want to work with them any further? So much for no problem with getting the charge off my card! I did leave a message a few days later and spoke to the salesman, who continued to be very nice and told me he didn't want me to have a bad taste in my mouth over the whole experience. However, since then he has not really following up with me and i really don't think he's operating with my interests in mind. He's very cordial when i've talked to him but there's no follow through. I really feel that they took advantage of me and that they have no incentive to give me a good deal. The really have me over a barrell and, i'd take my business elsewhere but i don't have $1,000 to throw away; not in this economy! I've lost enough already. More

The service advisor showed us an official looking chart explaining many other services "needed" at 15000 miles, including a tune up and new PCV valve. They said it was because the car is a hybrid. The charge for the service was $250 rather than the $25 the oil change cost. We thought this was Toyota's recommendation, and since we had never owned a hybrid before, we believed the dealer. When we got the car back, we read the manufacturer's recommendation, that said we didn't need any of that extra service until 60000 miles. The dealer ripped us off for $225 in service we didn't need. Buyer beware. We will never enter that dealership again, for anything. More
I purchased a used car 2003 Nisson Altima from their used car division Middletown Auto Sales. Had the car less than 2 weeks and found out the motor was no good. Dealer refuses to give my money back. In April of 2007 I visited Middletown Toyota at the end of business hours on a Saturday where I met Terry Schnurr, the General Sales Manager. I called Monday, talked with one of Terry's sales associates who applied my deposit to hold the car. Two hours before leaving to go to the dealership to purchase the car, Terry called me saying they sold the car to someone else who arrived with a check in-hand to buy the truck. What an incredibly dissappointing way of doing business. More
They talk of the "signature" but their service was so poor. I went in to check my engine and they told me there was something wrong with the exhaust valve. I ended up paying over $400 to get it fixed and within 2 days, the very same symptoms start to pop up again. I take the car back and now it is some input valve to the exhaust and another $200. Their labor charges are more than the parts themselves and the amount that i have had to pay till now are more than 10% of the car's value itself, and the parts they had to change had nothing to do with the car's major parts. The customer friendliness is zero. The sales manager doesn't know how to treat a customer. He spoke to me as if I was at his mercy. Totally bad experience. I wanted my Toyota Camry to be properly taken care of but I ended up getting a very poor quality service in return. More
