The car I had picked out was not available so I did have to start over and couldn't get everything on another car but that experience was good and not bad. Again Bill went about and beyond. I would buy a car from him again and refer him when I can. More

What began as a high quality experience at Herb Connolly Hyun I apologize in advance for the length, but I wanted to include all the critical details. What began as a high quality experience at Herb Connolly Hyundai quickly soured at the very end of the purchasing process. The vehicle I was initially interested in was no longer available when I visited the dealership on November 28th. The salesperson went through other vehicles in the inventory with me. He was friendly and professional during the process. When he found a vehicle I was interested in, we negotiated a fair deal involving a vehicle trade-in. We came to a deal on the price of the CPO vehicle, the value of the trade-in, and a few oil changes. I then put down a deposit ($500). The dealer finance department said they would contact me with their loan offer. Everything was going well to this point. Two days later (Monday afternoon) the dealership finance department had not contacted me. Only after I told the salesperson I was definitely financing outside the dealership did the dealer finance department call with an offer. Monday evening I went to the dealership to go through details of the purchase agreement (pricing and compared the factory CPO plan versus other warranties). I signed the Motor Vehicle Purchase Contract, and was told come by on Wednesday December 2nd with the checks from the bank and the vehicle for trade in. On Wednesday my experience went from positive to negative. The issue was the trade-in vehicle. My girlfriend and I cohabitate and share a vehicle. The trade in vehicle was in her name, but I was the one purchasing the CPO vehicle. The finance department did not realize that because my girlfriend and I are not married, her trade-in did not exempt me from the sales tax for the value of her trade in. In other words, I had to pay the full sales tax on the CPO vehicle, instead of the tax on value of the CPO vehicle minus the trade-in value. We were only informed of this AFTER handing over the checks. Again, AFTER we paid we were presented a new Motor Vehicle Purchase Contract to sign, followed by the finance manager saying they needed the additional sales tax we owed. They demanded another check for the sales-tax mistake they had made. Altering the price at this point in the purchasing process is unacceptable. The deal was signed on Monday afternoon, and now on Wednesday they changed the terms after we already paid. I understand that this was an issue of confusion around the law, not some malicious practice to get extra money out of the deal. However, the responsibility to provide an accurate price lies with the expertise of the salesperson and finance department, not the consumer. Furthermore, the finance department had two full days to catch their error and correct it before we came to pick up our vehicle. Other companies would simply honor the mislabeled price instead of stopping the consumer AFTER they had paid for it. I asked the finance manager if they could offer anything else to us to help offset the additional money they claimed we now owed. His answer was “no”, and that there was nothing he could change. The salesperson also made no attempt to rectify the situation. The dealership should have taken responsibility and accepted their loss that occurred because of their own mistake. The dealership could have also offered to offset the additional cost by adding an extra perk of similar value to the sales tax. Something as simple as a coupon for a four wheel alignment or additional oil changes would have been sufficient value to me, but would not be much of a financial loss to the dealership. But again, no attempts were made to resolve the situation since they already had our checks. Because of this experience I cannot recommend anyone purchase a vehicle from this dealership. The financial difference was not extreme in my case. However based on my experience, a similar mistake with a greater financial magnitude for a future customer could result in a significant financial burden that would be ignored by the dealership. More
