Sales person asked for my keys to take "pictures" of the car but I walked outside and they were performing a diagnostic test on my car without my consent. 3K in markups with no explanation and claims they can’t negotiate because they are a “family business”. I’ve bought cars in GA, TX, and Germany and this is the worst experience I’ve had. Very much a laughable experience, left without purchasing. Don’t waste your time unless you want the run around. STAY AWAY FROM MAZDA OF MESQUITE! Do not buy from this dealership. I wouldn't ever go back to get my car serviced here either. So background info. I have a breathalyzer in my car. If you’re unfamiliar or never seen one but you blow into it to start the car and then about 10 mins later it goes off again for you to blow into it so they make sure someone didn’t blow into it for you to start it up. Then once about every 30-40 minutes in the same trip, it will continue to go off until the vehicle is powered off. I went to Mazda of Mesquite because I hit a pothole and had a flat tire. I was on my way to work and I drive by Mazda every day. So I went in, and I’ve been there a million times. Even a few times with the breathalyzer in the car for oil changes, etc. When you have work done on a car with a breathalyzer in Texas, the mechanic has to call a phone number to get a bypass code to unlock the unit and be able to start the car without me being in there to blow into it every time. The first thing I said when I got into the service area was that there should be a note on my account that was made by one of the previous service associates that the instructions to obtain the bypass code should be there. I even brought a print out of the website of the breathalyzer company as well. The lady left and came back and said that her MANAGER said that it would take too long to call to get the code and that I could just blow into it and start it when they needed to move the vehicle. This was never a problem in the past when I've had my Mazda 3 serviced there before. I reluctantly agreed and started it up. About an hour later the Service Manager, Jose Magdaleno, told me the car was ready and that it was sitting out in the service bay and ready to go. I asked him how they were able to move it if I never came out and restarted it. He told me that it was left on the whole time and that it was his fault. I was infuriated. I angrily reiterated that I had explicitly asked them to turn it off and they were the ones that did not want to call to get the code. He apologized but didn't seem too concerned that I was explaining to him that this is a very big problem for my probation. Once I got back out to my vehicle, the breathalyzer was in "lockout mode" which means I had to go back to their service center to get them to unlock it and recalibrate it. Which not only took more of my time, but they also charge a $54.13 lockout fee to unlock it. I sent an email to Jose Magdaleno telling him all the issues this has caused me and asking that Mazda of Mesquite reimburse me for the $54.13 fee that they caused and even admitted that they were at fault. A week went by with no response. I sent another email asking for a resolution. I finally got a reply saying this: "Hello, I have contacted the Smart Start and confirmed with them about the process of getting the fee dismissed and they have confirmed with me that it will be dismissed by you providing them the invoice and the info of the day of service. I am sorry but that is all I am able to do for you. I was also advised by Smart Start that prior to any service on the vehicle you can contact them yourself before having the vehicle serviced. Moving forward we do not take any responsibility for issues accrued due to the breathalyzer installed in your vehicle. Jose Magdaleno Service Director" So after receiving this, I filed an incident report with Smart Start, the breathalyzer company, about the violation and disputed the lockout fee. They declined my dispute stating that "In any incident involving work performed on a vehicle equipped with a Smart Start device, a copy of the certified mechanic receipt will need to accompany the claim which you did provide. The mechanic must be certified and have contacted Smart Start for proper bypass procedures. Unfortunately, the mechanic didn't contact us for instructions, so we will not be able to reimburse the lockout fees at this time." So if they would have called and got the code LIKE I HAD ASKED THEM TO DO INITIALLY, none of this would have happened and I wouldn't be out an extra $54. HORRIBLE customer service from Jose Magdaleno and I didn't even get a response from any of the other staff members I tried emailing. Over the last 5-7 years, my family has purchased 4 vehicles form this dealership. This wasn't the first issue I've had, and I will NOT be coming back to buy a vehicle nor to get my vehicle serviced. STAY AWAY FROM MAZDA OF MESQUITE! More
