From beginning to end, Phil Smart was just a wonderful place. Jimmy was the first sales person I talked to about the car we eventually purchased. On the day we picked up the car, we were made to feel comfortable in their lounge, and were asked a few times if we needed a beverage or anything to make us feel comfortable. Due to successful negotiation, trade-in value, and great customer service, I was able to finalize a deal on a new C-300 4 matic on my first visit within 2-3 hours. Alan was very easy to talk to, gave me a test drive prior to purchase and clearly explained features upon arrival. I appreciated his giving space to decide with family and not being too pushy as I've experienced at other dealerships. Originally I had visited the location on Pike looking for a specific vehicle. I was told the car was at their other location on Aiport Way S. in Seattle. The saleman was supposed to provide me with the address, and never came back. Phil Smart Sr. then came out, was very nice, and told me what the address was. I arrived at the Airport Way location and was greeted by a salesman that would not leave me to look at the cars on my own. I was stuck with him and his sales pitches. After looking around at other dealerships for a few weeks, I knew exactly what I was looking for, and the specs/prices on the other 36 ML350s in the Seattle area. It was absolutely shocking how overpriced Phil Smart's cars were. The condition of the vehicles was inferior to the others- the cars were not properly detailed, and one 2006 model was 11K over some of the comparable cars, also with warranty. The salesman told me he could probably sell this car to me (which I wasn't interested in) for 25K instead of the $34K sale price.... when I asked about the 2008 models I was interested, the salesman couldn't give me a price without leaving me for about 25 minutes to work with his sales manager. The sales manager basically told me that they couldn't give me a price until they looked at my trade in. I asked how much they could sell the car to me for, NOT how much the trade would be. They were full of smoke and mirrors, were everything but straight forward, cocky, arrogant, and extremely rude. The sales manager cost his rep a sale. I walked in (and out) as a single female and was treated like an idiot. The sales manager was incapable of answering any of my questions without B.S.... I'm not an amateur buying, and I know exactly how car sales work- I do similar financing at a regional level for a similar product. The guy should be fired- its salesmen like him that give car salesman a bad name. I can't imagine that Phil Smart Sr. has any idea of the character he has working for him on Airport Way. I'll stick with BMW and will make sure all of my friends do as well. More
The referred me to someone who was selling a used 420 SE, and buying something new. I made an appointment for a buyer's inspection at the shop on Pike Street, where I had taken previous MB's thank I had owne and buying something new. When I called the owner to meet me there, she freaked, and then I got a call from the Service Manager at their airport way shop to bring it there instead. They did the inspection, which left me with more questions than answers (like x-needs to be fixed, but we need more time ($$$$) to diagnose. When I came to pick up the car, they had already given the report to the seller without my knowledge. They also REFUSED To give me any info. about the car, even though they had serviced it. When I called the owner, to negotiate, he said that he would not, and when I said that I had basically paid for a free diagnosis for his car, he said "yup". When I called Phill Smart to complain, they said that since the other people owned the car, they were allowed to see all the info., but that I was not able to see the history. No other dealer does this... EVER. More
