Dear Chris W., I hope that my voicemail provided the clarification you deserved and helped make sense as to what occurred. I apologize for leaving it in the hands of the salesperson, the fault for the communication rests with me. As the news headlines have indicated the production of automobiles has been severely impacted by the lack of available microchips. This problem is completely disrupting the automotive industry, the supply is out of balance with the demand. Here at our dealership, where we typically have over 300 new Mercedes-Benz vehicles in stock, we currently have 70. We are completely out of many models and the re-supply does not appear to be coming any time soon. With that, in an effort to make sure we can provide vehicles for our existing clients and community, our company has found it necessary to suspended all out-of-state deliveries. To add to the complexity, another unexpected and unwelcomed situation reinforcing the decision to suspend out-of-state deliveries is the resurgence of COVID-19. With many closed or partially closed town halls, departments of motor vehicles and other institutions necessary to complete an out-of-state sale or registration, the delay in getting titles or registrations are significant. The amount of pain experienced with these deliveries, on our part, and on clients, vastly exceeds any possible benefit to the client or the dealership. It is for these combined reasons we no longer accommodate out-of-state purchases. Regarding the difference in price any business or industry that's facing this amount of disruption is likely to have pricing pressure. Currently most dealerships, at least in So. Cal has been pricing their vehicles to market. When you don't have a product to sell it's completely understandable that prices change, whether it be cars, houses, or anything that is in critical supply. This situation developed in April, May and became worse in June and July. It's mind-blowing to us that we could open on August 1st with only 70 cars to sell, less than fifteen days of supply. We regret that this situation, which is well beyond our control, has resulted in these changes. We look forward to when inventory returns when there's a balance between supply and demand, and we can pursue sales with vigor. Also, I personally apologize that the communication surrounding the situation wasn't more handled as well as it should have and could have been; the fault is entirely mine.
