He was very knowledgeable of options, packages, functions, capacities, and availability. He listened to our long list of wants, balanced those against our equally long list of needs and found the vehicle that satisfied both in stock. He delivered us to it, answered many questions, and patiently verified we were satisfied with his answers. He listened. We are very happy with our purchase of a Ford truck. So the truck is prepped and ready to deliver. Jon greets and informs that a demonstration of the truck's electronic capabilities has been arranged. We're a little apprehensive but figure we might learn a few nuggets after suffering through some droning briefing. It wasn't that way at all... Austin explains the basics inside the dealership then invites us to OUR vehicle for hands-on demonstration. For nearly an hour, most every button in the vehicle is repeatedly pushed and cool stuff happens while Austin demonstrates how, why, and when to not to. Lots of laughter and we learned plenty. I love my Ford truck. I feel confident I will be happy taking it to Mel Hambelton for Service. More

Original story/experience: I selected a 2011 Ford Edge Limited at Mel Hambelton Ford after several weeks of research on autotrader and cars.com. Pros - Mel Hambelton was willing to negotiate on price, sandwiches and water available for customers Cons - After discussing the vehicle condition multiple times with the salesperson and a manager, specifically if there were any door dings, dents, scratches, stains, etc, I was told each time that this was a "clean" car and the salesperson gave a personal rating of 9.5/10 for this vehicle. I also made certain that I was able to speak with a manager to represent the vehicle because my wife and I would be traveling from over 4 hours away to make the purchase. The manager also personally guaranteed the car was a "clean" car with no glaring stains or dents. The manager’s exact words were “the carpets are a little ‘dingy’ but we’ll get those cleaned.” After renting a one way rental car to Wichita and driving 4 hours one way, we arrived to find the interior to have bright orange and red stains all over the interior back seat carpet. The salesperson and I discussed the stains and he said he would talk to his manager. After doing so, they said they would only be willing to fill the car up with gas (wow, thank you) and that they would not fix the stains. After insisting they present the car in the way it was described multiple times over the phone by the salesperson and manager and threatening to leave and go home, they fixed half the stains and we would responsible for the rest. Lessons learned: 1) don’t even trust a manager’s word at a dealership 2) be skeptical when a lot of the online photos are awkward, up-close pictures of the door handles and breaklights 3) filling up a newly purchased vehicle with gas is supposedly a favor and not customary at this dealership 4) don’t buy long distance without first seeing the vehicle, even at a supposedly reputable dealership. The salesperson also mentioned several times that we were purchasing the car “at cost”. My message to Mel Hambelton Ford is that nobody believes that and to stop using it as a sales tactic. Nobody believes you purchased the car, tuned the car up, and are turning around and selling it for the same price plus your costs to a random customer 4 hours away whom you’ve never worked with before. It also took 3.5 weeks to get the title from the dealership, leaving us with 2 days to get the car registered. And I would definitely review your sales contract from Mel Hambelton; they failed to sign in the correct spot--you’d think this was their first time; so the DMV had to fax it back to them for signature, creating an even longer day at the DMV. Finally, I responded by email and then by phone by leaving a voicemail to a letter sent out by the General Sales Manager Jeff Horning. The letter wanted to ensure our experience was “perfect”. I emailed and called to discuss this with him and never received a return email or return call. He also wanted to “personally invite” us to share our experience on various review sites. I am doing so in hopes that the next person either thinks twice about buying at Mel Hambelton or gets a better experience than we did. All the car dealership stereotypes exist because of experiences like this—and at Mel Hambelton Ford, rightly so. We would never again purchase from Mel Hambelton Ford. More
Well, I bought a used ford edge from Travis 8 mths ago. Than on July 4 morning my husband and lost both our vehicles in our house fire! We both needed new vehicles , so went back to Travis. This by far the best sales experience I have ever had. James was wonderful and work his hardest to get everything I asked for. He did so well that we actually purchased TWO cars from him. We weren't even going in to get her a car- it was for our son who is overseas. We ended up getting a deal that that we almost couldn't believe and walked out with the showroom model of the 2012 Focus SE. The people at Mel's are fantastic; very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. If you want a Ford, THIS is the place to go- nowhere else. More
I bought my used car from Mel Hambelton Ford and specifically asked if they would be able to service it. I was told no problem, they service all kinds of makes and models of cars. The first time I had a problem, I could not get anybody to return my calls. Finally after two weeks I was told MHF could not help and I would have to take it to Kansas City for repair. I have had several oil changes at MHF, and brake lights replaced there, and all in all, had my car there maybe eight to ten times. I have never had my car washed, and this past time they had it for several days. When I take my other car to Davis Moore for anything, they vacuum and wash it. I have had their "world class inspection" but they never caught that the car had it's original air filter that needed replacing, or that all four tires were under inflated. I do not recommend this place for anything. More
