I’ve spoken with Mr. Kelley and his resolution was to repair the problem at a discounted rate, which I refused. I believe that if you drive a vehicle to the shop for a diagnostic, you should be able to drive that vehicle back home. The vehicle was towed back to my daughter’s house Friday, February 14th. Anticipating I was going to have to replace the brake booster and sensor I went ahead and purchased them. I went to my daughter’s house Saturday, February 15. The first thing I did was inspect the brake booster hose which I was told had deteriorated. And that’s when I found that the brake booster hose was in good condition and had been removed from the back of the engine. Realizing the mechanic had purposely removed the hose and caused the brakes to become stiff, because there was no air getting to booster. I reconnected the hose and the brakes became functional again. The brake booster hose is a molded hose. Where the hose connects to the back of the engine, it curves around and connect to the booster. The outside curve of the hose that connects to the engine sit against the firewall and the nipple the hose connects to at the engine is a little over an inch long. So there’s no way for that hose to slip off on its own. My daughter spent $400 on a rental and $125 on towing fees. I grew up in a family that owned GM vehicles and I have recommended GM vehicles to anyone looking to buy a vehicle, new or used. But after this encounter, I will never recommend another GM vehicle to anyone else. The 40 years I’ve been a mechanic, I’ve made GM some money. I know of at least a dozen people that bought new vehicles from GM because of my recommendation and many more bought used vehicles. I will not be your free sales person anymore. From here on out, I’m recommending all vehicles that’s not GM.
