Great One recommendation would be if someone could bring your car to the front after service. Took me ten min to find my car in the lot in the pouring rain. In this case, however, this experience came pretty close to what I had expected in terms of price and the general buying experience. I had gone through True Car looking for a new GMC 2500HD to replace my ten year old model. True Car provide a price and Maxon, as well as another dealer, called and emailed saying they had the vehicle I was looking for at the price quoted. I went to the first dealer, it was closer, and it was a total bait and switch, ploy. They didn’t have the vehicle I wanted, but could sell me another at higher price. I walked out. I next went to Maxon, spoke with Nick, who brought the truck out and we went for a test drive. It was exactly what I wanted. The base price, as quoted by True Car, was what was offered. Now here is where I detest buying a car. I knew the base price did not include tax, doc fees and other add-ons that I knew would be thrown in. The final price they stared with was about $800 more than I had wanted to pay. In the end we split the difference and I bought the truck. What I don’t like are fees for window etching, which is totally useless and I could do for less than half of the $300 they charged. Next the Doc fees they charged were what I considered, excessively high. I knew what it would cost to register, and what the taxes (luxury tax included) would be before I got to the dealer and had included them in what I thought was a fair out the door price. The fees they wanted were, in my opinion, too high. In the end we worked out a deal, which I considered OK, not great, but ok, so I bought the vehicle. Cold I have haggled more, gone to another dealer or done something else? Sure, but as I said I hate buying new cars and I figured this was about as close as I would get to what I considered my out the door price. Now as for communicating with the dealer: This was a cash deal on their part as I obtained financing from my Credit Union with a really great rate, so I got the feeling that knowing this the dealership really just wanted to close the deal and get rid of me, as they weren’t making anything on the financing. During the course of the week preceding my dropping off the check and picking up the vehicle, I had communicated with the sales person via email several times. I sent the emails with a marked as read and a return receipt requested. I never, not once, got either. In my opinion that is a very poor way to communicate with your customers. I can say that the experience picking up the vehicle went smoothly and was handled professionally. All the paperwork was ready and Nick spent more than an hour going over the various features of the vehicle. He assisted me with syncing my phone and On Star accounts and covered the numerous options installed on this truck. As a sales person Nick did an admirable job and is to be commended. Some final thoughts: In the past when I have purchased a new car, pat of the send off from the dealer was a walk to the shop area and greeting the service manager. Usually with something like “hope to see you for the first oil change”. That never happened so I guess they don’t like their service department. Another curious missing element was the push to buy extended warranty coverage? Not that I missed that, but I found it interesting that this was never mentioned, especially with all the electronics on this truck? Again, nothing really bad about this scenario, just curious. It was like here is your truck, see you later and don’t let the door hit you in the xxx as you go? I guess they sell so many cars they really don’t need nor want repeat business. In the end I would buy another car from them. But to others I suggest you absolutely do your homework with regards to pricing, taxes, fees and add-ons. Know what a fair out the door price is before you go. If you do your experience should be uneventful. More
