Took my vin. I told him my auto trans was shuddering. He told me I would have to pay diagnosis fee. I told him no, there is a active recall on my spec vehicle. He said from his experience of working in the industry, most likely would need to replace the transmission. Saids this is normal wear. I said car is only 5 years old. And it's a Camry. He said these cars are not as well built as they use to be. Gave me corporate number to complain and he insisted I pay the diagnosis fee to at least know for sure the problem. And if I need to replace the transmission, I at least know what's wrong with the car. I refused and left. Came back the next day. Spoke to different service consultant. Told him my problem. He took my vin. Looked up and saw vehicle in fact does have an active recall. Transmission no longer shudders after torque converter replaced.. paid absolutely nothing. Covered under recall. Went from practically having to pay for a diagnosis fee just for a tech to look at the vehicle. And then $5000+ to have the transmission issue resolved. To paying nothing... Very nice guy, but how ill informed is this service consultant, I really hope this was just one of those unfortunate rare mistakes. Would have hate this to happen to other people who get pressured into handling over tons of money even for recall work. More
