Service center finds things to fail inspection Brought my 2002 Hyundai Accent in for usual PA inspection and emissions exemption (only 92,000 miles on vehicle in 14 years). Put new brakes and roto Brought my 2002 Hyundai Accent in for usual PA inspection and emissions exemption (only 92,000 miles on vehicle in 14 years). Put new brakes and rotors on car few days before, hoping to get one last year as prior vehicles I had new lasted 11.5 and 15.5 years due to my father's mechanical abilities. Was told by service that needed two shocks and a whole new exhaust system (yet it passed emissions??), for a total of $1600 on a car worth $800. When putting the brakes on, the person said one shock was borderline but would be good for one last year. Up until last year, the service center was reasonable with its inspection, but last year they said there was "too much rust on the rotors" (can't find that in the vague PA inspection manual), failed the car, took it back a couple of days later having done nothing, and it "magically" passed?? Took the car back to the person who put the brakes in for me and said again one shock was borderline, the other was fine, and all we found after 15 minutes of looking was two pencil-eraser-size pinholes in the tailpipe, which could be puttied with no problem. Doing that, he would put the inspection sticker on it no problem. I understand that the service center wouldn't do the putty, but they could at least have told me there were two microscopic pinholes in the tailpipe, not just say $1000 for a whole new exhaust system that wasn't necessary. The only reason I went for a new car from this dealer is they are the only local Hyundai dealer and in thinking I figured that if I waited the following year the new cars would be even more ridiculously priced and I would get even less for my car as a trade-in (even though they didn't give me a reasonable amount for the trade-in anyway). Aside from warranty work and possibly inspection they will not touch the new vehicle. Very disappointing, as writing a good review for the dealership selling me the new car, the owner had the nerve to insult me and my Accent and suggest they will "properly maintain the car to ensure longevity". Real funny. More
