They’ll sell you on the Koons used car guarantee stating that they do an extra thorough multipoint inspection and have a no hassle exchange policy if you find anything wrong after purchase. But that program will be a $1000 line item when you go to negotiate a sales price and actually only covers very specific items. Should you need to use the program, you’ll be met with so many delays, rude and dismissive sales people, and lack of response that it’s impossible to use the program. In our experience, the multipoint inspection was a lick and stick state inspection. We bought a car with 30,000 miles and now have to fork up over $3000 in repairs just to get it to pass Maryland inspection. Koons won’t do anything. It’s been a total headache and an absolute waste of time and energy trying to get them to honor the agreement. 50 days later and they still won’t remediate the situation so we can get the car titled in Maryland. If you decide to look at a used car here, don’t trust the Koons name and make sure you have your trusted mechanic inspect the car BEFORE you buy it! But honestly you’re much better off taking your business to one of the hundreds of other dealers in the area. More
My wife and I went to Koons Ford to change from one lease into another. Fred Bernal and Sam were the key people helping us in this process. What was unique about both Fred and Sam was an ability to listen an into another. Fred Bernal and Sam were the key people helping us in this process. What was unique about both Fred and Sam was an ability to listen and to present the necessary information while not pressuring us to make a decision. Even when there was a mistake they handle it truthfully and graciously and gave us both time to think and conclude. They both seem to be aware of the importance of bonding with the client. More
Bad faith negotiation do not buy your car here. They are successfully perpetuating the negative stereotypes of used car salesman. We had agreed on the car, the price, and that they'd do some minor service/repairs for free (alignment, replace a missing piece of car console). Was at the stage of signing paper work when I noticed that the paper work didn't reflect the repairs and service the had agreed to and when I asked them to add them in they said no at first. And then when I got them to agree they then added a $1,200 charge on the final price tag. And, unlike every other dealership, they wanted my trade in to be a separate transaction which meant the value of the trade in wouldn't reduce the taxes of my purchase. More
Terrible Service and Unprofessional Handling of Recall Issue I brought my car in for a recall repair, and after two days, the check engine light came on. I immediately went back to the dealership, hopi Issue I brought my car in for a recall repair, and after two days, the check engine light came on. I immediately went back to the dealership, hoping they would fix the issue, as it was likely related to their service. Instead, they wanted to charge me for a diagnostic test and hundreds of dollars to fix something that was their fault! It’s extremely frustrating and disappointing that a dealership would treat customers this way. I expected them to take responsibility for the problem, but instead, I was given the runaround and asked to pay for something that should’ve been addressed during their recall repair. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere in the future. More
Would give a zero star review if possible. TL/DR: RUN, DON'T WALK, AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. I bought a used (2011) Ford Explorer XLT from the dealership 8 days ago. Low mileage and loo TL/DR: RUN, DON'T WALK, AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. I bought a used (2011) Ford Explorer XLT from the dealership 8 days ago. Low mileage and looked great. I left happy (and even left a 5 star review). First, before I left, I noted that the Tire Pressure Warning system was noting a fault. The salesman said that the tires just needed air. I believed him. The next day I filled the tires, but the system didn't turn off. Problem #1. The next day, when I actually brought the vehicle to speed (45 mph +) I noted a rumbling in the front left tire. Long story short, the left wheel bearing needs to be replaced. Problem #2. I brought the vehicle back two days later and asked them to do a diagnostic and fix it. The sales manager refused saying they only had to ensure the vehicle passed safety inspection. After pushing, he said they could go "50/50" with me on the fix. The next day, I filled the vehicle with gas and nearly immediately noted a gasoline smell in the cabin and outside. I dropped the kids at school and brought the vehicle to an independent repair shop to diagnose. Not only was there a faulty wheel bearing (which should have meant the car couldn't pass inspection), but the fuel pump AND the fuel tank filler neck were leaking. Problems #3 and #4. The car was unsafe to drive. I brought it back to the dealership and asked for a full refund. The vehicle never should have even been on the lot for sale. Instead of admitting they'd sold an unsafe vehicle, they refused to give me my money back despite the fact that I'd had the car for seven days. Per their agreement, they could give me a trade in at greater value. They tried to actually lower the price they'd pay on my vehicle by $1,000. I ultimately was able to "negotiate" something they stipulate in their contract and was able to get full price for the explorer, but had to buy another vehicle on the lot. If I'd bought an older vehicle off a small used car lot, I'd have ensured I got an independent inspection... I didn't in this case, trusting the fact that this was a name brand dealership. What a mistake I made. They sold me an unsafe vehicle that never should have been on the road, much less for sale. I'm now out an extra $1,000 for having to pay taxes, title, fees twice, plus $250 for the diagnostic from an independent shop, plus $200 for a rental car. This place is an absolute scam. Run, don't walk, away from Koons Ford. I've never had a wore experience in buying a car...and I've bought more than a dozen. More
