Searching for the Ultimate Sonata Hybrid Limited Our experience with Keyes Hyundai was generally good--we enjoyed interacting with Leo, his manager, and the financial staff. Leo was accommodating and Our experience with Keyes Hyundai was generally good--we enjoyed interacting with Leo, his manager, and the financial staff. Leo was accommodating and tried hard to find the right car for us. Apparently, red Hybrid Sonata Limiteds with Ultimate packages are rare! Anyway, we ended up with the car we wanted for a reasonable price--perhaps not the absolute lowest possible, but given the rarity of the car, we were generally satisfied. We had a good test drive, and the staff was attentive to us with offered amenities. The overall process was very long, mainly because of the difficulty of negotiating a dealer trade for the car we wanted. We left Keyes that night without our new car, but with the deal consummated...our new Sonata appeared a couple of days later, ready to go. I think the price negotiation could have been a bit more transparent, however, it was far, far from the worst I've experienced, and very nearly the best. I would suggest being as straightforward as possible with the customer, including an itemized price list that includes dealer cost and customer cost for each item. I realize this goes against common practice and tradition, but I think in the long run it will benefit the dealership and generate repeat satisfied customers. One other criticism: when we first contacted Keyes, we were told that the exact car we wanted was in stock. When we arrived, we were told it had been sold. I think this was due to an internal communication problem rather than a deception, so that could be improved. Anyway, in summary, the staff was good, the price was generally fair, we got nearly the exact car we wanted, and were overall satisfied with the process. More

However, when it came to price and financing I felt I was pressured into adding options that I did not need. Because I felt pressured I did not adequately research the add ons they were pitching me, such as the KARR security system and additional warranty because the manufacturers warranty "doesn't cover everything". I was also told to drive the car off the lot, which I now know is because once you do you are unable to alter any deals or change your mind. I was very unhappy to learn I grossly overpaid for the car I received according to the average in Southern California. I've also been waiting for a response from Brooke for a month regarding a financing question. This was my first car purchase on my own and I don't completely fault the dealership because it's their job to get as much money as possible from prospective buyers, but I don't feel like I was "taken care of" and have now educated myself for any future interactions with car dealerships. More
