The vehicle you are interested was found to be in unsafe condition and would take approx $5000 in repairs. As I mentioned to you if I would not put my kids in a car I refuse to put a guest in that vehicle. I am sorry the vehicle failed inspection. The vehicle has minor oil leaks and a broken engine mount that would take a decent tech 15 minutes to replace. You have an interesting definition of an unsafe vehicle. What happened was you realized that with about $1500 worth of work you can sell the car for at least $2500 more than what the manager that works for you made the deal with me for. Your greed has exceeding your commitment to integrity. It is men like you that give used car salesmen a bad name.

Minor leaks turn into major issues. We would prefer you are in a 'safe and reliable vehicle' that your family can enjoy for a long time. I apologize for the confusion surrounding your recent visit to our dealership. The vehicle you wanted to purchase should never have been offered to you to as an option. With all the vehicles we trade for about 30% of them will not pass our high standards to insure that every pre-owned vehicle purchased from Jack Ellena Honda by our Customers will provide them safe and reliable transportation. The vehicle you looked would not meet those standards and was slated to go to the wholesale auction. You wanted to purchase the vehicle in question “as is”. The individuals you spoke with are fairly new to our dealership and unaware of certain Kansas state laws that prohibit us from selling any vehicle “as is”. Additionally, regardless of Kansas laws, our policy is to never sell a pre-owned vehicle to a Customer that we did not determine to be safe and reliable. When we spoke on Thursday I informed you that the only way we could sell this vehicle to you was for us to inspect it, determine what repairs would be required to make it safe and reliable and then perform those repairs. I also informed you that cost of those repairs would be added to the price you were quoted on the vehicle. As you know the vehicle was determined to need tires, power steering components, motor mounts and various other repairs that all totaled were in excess of $5,000. We did not raise the price of the vehicle in question we simply asked you pay for repairs required to make it safe and reliable to which you declined. John Ellena

John, you barley spoke with me. The majority of dealings were with your GM and his statement to me was "I did not want to make the deal". I looked over the vehicle (and do have the qualifications to know what I am looking at) and the items you are considering major were in reality minor issues that would not affect the value of the vehicle. If you tell a tech to, he will nitpick a vehicle and make the "repair" bill as high as possible especially if you "do not want to make the deal". Your lack of ethical dealings is apparent and rampant throughout your managerial staff. I truly pity those that have unfortunate position of working for you and the weight it must put on their conscience.
