Great Cars: Deals are complicated The sales associate was kind and accommodating. When we got to talking about price, the issue of finance rates came up. The deal was presented to The sales associate was kind and accommodating. When we got to talking about price, the issue of finance rates came up. The deal was presented to us in a matter of fact way that supported the dealerships "no haggle" point of view. No haggle means they do not negotiate the price of vehicle. My wife and I were good with the terms and were impressed with the manner in which the numbers and certifications were presented to us about that particular SUV. We said we would think about it but expressed that it was a good deal to us. We left but I later called the rep to tell him that we were seriously interested in the car and would like to come in the next day to sign the contract for the car. The sales rep told me that the finance rate had changed and that the rate should only change by a percentage point or so, and that we could clarify when my wife and I would come back in. My Wife was already in love with the car and I felt it was a bit of bait and switch. Several calls later, a floor manager got on the phone with me to continue to tell me that the car was not actually L-certified but only JM certified because of the year of the pre-owned car. I mentioned that while at the dealership, the Sales manager had confirmed in front of us with the sales rep that the car was L-certified. The L- Certification had warranted a 2.9% financing that included bumper to bumper warranty for another 5 years or so, and a few other perks of financing an L certified car. We ended up with a 5.1% "temporary banks are closed on the weekend" rate (with an 825 credit score) and a promise to "go to bat" for us to renegotiate the Lexus Finance Co rate. The sales rep was apologetic and said that "he owned" the original AR and service agreement misquotes, but we never received any "consolation prizes." Just a, "no haggle is the future" speech. The sales rep says that he had been working at the dealership since October (8mo), but it felt like he was unfamiliar with the paperwork we had to sign. Maybe it was because it was all done on an ipad, but the rep got up to talk to his manager 7-10 times during our signing of the cosigned contract. If this was a car for me, I would have walked, but my wife loved/loves the car and we believe that Lexus is a super reliable car with a touch of luxury. I would have given this a 3star rating for handling the customer except that our sales rep was super nice. I told the sales rep that even though they have a "no haggle" policy, I felt like I was the one to get haggled and switched on the rates and car service agreements. Still waiting for a new/reduced interest rate, so hopefully they will redeem themselves and really go to bat for a first time Lexus owner. More
