We started our search for a 2013 Accent with the Premium Package by visiting several car websites and in addition, through the True Car buying service that was supposed to be the best deal you can get throu Package by visiting several car websites and in addition, through the True Car buying service that was supposed to be the best deal you can get through an employer program (turned out to be worthless!). Since Cherokee Hyundai was closest to my home, I wanted to try to give them my business and between researching invoice pricing, and getting quotes from other dealers, etc., I was able to get Cherokee to match the lowest price I had gotten from another dealer. (during this process, I learned that dealers trade cars between them,(never knew that before), and actually I almost bought the car from a different dealer who would have gotten the car transferred from CHerokee to their dealership for me to buy at their lower price!). OK, price shopping aside, here's my review of the actual dealership. Sales Process: Got the best price, and Rick Banks is professional, charming, patient and was very willing to work with my endless haggling, even though he had to look out for the dealership's best interest (he's on the internet side of sales). Kevin Shakur was my salesman. He was also, very professional, warm and was friendly and laid back. If you want a salesperson who is not too "in your face", he's your guy. ANOTHER thing that I want to applaud Kevin for is that he voluntarily showed us that Hyundai Accent does NOT come with a spare tire. I've read many blogs that describe customers who were shocked to learn when they had a flat tire a year after they bought their car, that no one told them that the car didn't have a spare! I appreciated Kevin disclosing that important point to us in advance! Dealership Politics: What I didn't like was when we returned to the dealership to test drive the car once more, Kevin was not there and although I realize that the dealership doesn't want to tell the customer to come back when the salesman returns, they "assigned" another salesman to us. Since I'm in sales, I was very sensitive to the commission issue and I felt that Kevin was entitled to the whole commission but I later learned that it does get split when you follow up on a car purchase when your salesperson is not there. This may not bother some customers since all they may care about is getting the car and at the price they want it, but if you're sensitive to this kind of stuff, make sure all of your follow up visits occur when your salesperson is there!!! Finance: Although we did not use dealership financing, of course you have to see the finance manager to do the paperwork. Scott was extremely efficient, quick and painless. I had dreaded this part since I remember my last car purchase at a Honda dealer being endless. I was delighted at how quickly this part went, and appreciated that Scott did not hard sell us on extended warrantees, rust protection and all that other stuff that many dealerships try to upsell. Closing: I realize that we weren't buying their top of the line car by any means, however, it would have been a nice touch for the sales manager or general manager to have come out to say thanks for the business. In spite of this, we are already planning our next Hyundai purchase and hope to return to Cherokee Hyundai at that time. More

When I began looking for a car I only wanted to shop. I was not pressured with the guys at Cherokee Hyundai. They listen to what I was looking for and my terms. It took me over a week to make my decision and they were patient during this time. My only problem was the waiting on the paper work once I did make my decision. More
I am very cynical when it comes to car shopping. I do my research in advance, and take nothing I hear at dealerships at face value. In shopping for a car for my daughter, I did my research at Edmunds and research in advance, and take nothing I hear at dealerships at face value. In shopping for a car for my daughter, I did my research at Edmunds and Consumer Reports, which put the Hyundai Elantra GLS at the top of our list. I checked online to see which dealers near me were showing the most Elantras in stock. Cherokee Hyundai had the most by far, and was as close to me as any, so they were the obvious place to go for a test drive. After I explained what I wanted -- and what I didn't want -- our salesman, Sam Janjooa, let my daughter take a test drive. The test drive was in a fully loaded Elantra, and Sam made a nominal effort at upselling us, but not in an overly pushy way. Hey, that's his job. (And I see from the review immediately before mine that sam likes his co-workers.) After the test drive, I explained that we had just started the process, and that I was not really ready to start negotiating yet. But I did ask him about the extra sticker showing dealer-added options. I had noticed that virtually every car had the same items -- window etching; some kind of extra body coating (a/k/a the usual crap); and a third item priced at $1000 and identified only by a set of 3 initials. When I asked Sam what that was, he waved his hand as if brushing the extra sticker away, and said that since I had told him I had looked at Edmunds, we would only be talking about "this one" -- indicating the main sticker. I nonetheless looked it up later. It was ADM (or something like that) and stood for "Additional Dealer Markup." Yep -- the dealer was jacking another grand into the price by pretending it had added something to car itself. Really cheesy. The other dealer-added options, even if grossly overpriced, at least added something to the value of the car. But in my opinion it borders on intentional misrepresentation to disguise part of the asking price for the car by hiding it in a list of items that most lay people would assume involved actual physical improvements. I almost crossed Cherokee off my list based on that alone. But I ultimately decided to include them when I started shopping price, mostly b/c I did not think it was fair to punish the salesman, who had treated us well. Well, wouldn't you know it -- Cherokee came in with the best price. Not right away, of course, but with a reasonable amount of dickering. They did not try to throw in an advertising fee. And though the doc fee was way too high, I kept citing to Edmunds. Though they kept the doc fee the same, they reduced the price by the same amount that Edmunds deemed the doc fee excessive, and eventually came down to the a few bucks below the Edmunds FMV. (Other dealers were much slower to respond to my emails – some never responded at all. Those that did respond declined to match or beat Cherokee's price.) I had been so put off by the ADM funny business that I insisted on doing all negotiating via email or text. Sorry, Sam, I know that was a pain in the neck, but I felt like I had to have a written record of all negotiations in order to protect myself from any possibility of a bait and switch -- not b/c of anything Sam did, but b/c of Cherokee's questionable pricing tactics w/ regard to the ADM (or whatever they called it). When I picked the car up, Sam gave me the guided tour of the vehicle, and threw in a few little extras that I had said I was not willing to pay for -- cargo net, first aid kit, & IPod cord. (Also the nitrogen-filled tires, which the car, coming out of dealer stock, apparently already had. The jury seems to be out as to whether that adds any real value for most drivers.) A little lagniappe is always a smart move. Anyhow, I was happy with Sam, and happy with the price I negotiated. And I have no problem with the concept that an informed shopper may wind up with a better deal than someone who comes in without having done their homework. But I think Cherokee Hyundai, and anyone else using the cheesy ADM tactic described above, is doing themselves and the industry a disservice. More

We visited Cherokee Hyundai right after being treated poorly at Rick Case Hyundai (refer to my review of them for details). What a difference a dealer makes! Stepping off the car we were immediately poorly at Rick Case Hyundai (refer to my review of them for details). What a difference a dealer makes! Stepping off the car we were immediately greeted by Terrance Green. Terrance is knowledgeable, friendly, courteous and professional. He was a pleasure to work with. We also interacted with Ritu Chhabra (who initially contacted us by email and phone regarding our inquiry through the USAA Car Buying Service), Scott Morris and Leslie Pollak. They were all very pleasant and made us feel very welcome and not pressured at all. Initially we did not agree on the numbers, but Terrance and Scott worked with us with a respectful and positive, "can do" attitude and we quickly arrive at a point we were all comfortable with. They stayed late after their normal store hours to complete our paperwork to make sure we were able to drive our new Accent HB home that night. We love the car and loved the experience. Cherokee Hyundai has earned our loyalty, and I wholeheartedly recommend them! More

I have been purchasing cars for 45 years. Until Friday believed I had worked with the best sales person. Michael was by far the best I have ever worked with because he made the process comfortable. He understood and met my needs fully with no pressure to make a decision and showed a full acknowledgement and respect of my concerns. The discussions with finance were very pleasant and the entire staff showed us courtesy and respect. Overall likely the best "car buying" experience in my lifetime. I am in sales and experienced the right way to treat a potiential customer from Michael. Thanks Mike More
