When I was undecided about which car to choose, Godfrey gave me time and space to do a little more research on my phone. I had to leave in between completing my purchase and financing and when I returned Godfrey took more time to assist me, prepare my new car and show me more features. I went as a return customer to Honda of New Rochelle with a pre approval and locked in rate from my credit union .Coincidentally it is the same credit union in which they utilize also. We negotiated and agr a pre approval and locked in rate from my credit union .Coincidentally it is the same credit union in which they utilize also. We negotiated and agreed on a deal for a certified Passport. Soon after they told me my pre approved loan was not going to be accepted. They actually wanted me to disregard my bank loan pre- approval and reapply for a loan to the same very same bank but through Honda so they can get a referral fee. The loan would be at a higher interest rate than what I had already locked in. When I refused to reapply to my own bank for a higher rate than what I had they cancelled the agreed upon deal. When I explained to them I have the approval already and can drop off the bank check to them in a couple of days they still cancelled the deal. All because they wanted to make sure they got their referral fee. Why would any person reapply for a loan to their own bank for a higher interest rate than was already locked in? As a consumer this would be an insane decision. Regardless Honda of New Rochelle cancelled an agreed upon deal to a repeat customer because they didn’t get to choose and dictate the terms of my financing. Awful business practice. Before you waste your time shopping there make sure to discuss with them what banks you are allowed or not allowed to use as this clearly dictates their willingness to complete a deal or back out of a deal.
