Car Buying Experience The Way It Should Be I have been driving and buying cars for almost 50 years. Never in that time have I purchased a car from the same dealership twice, let alone from the I have been driving and buying cars for almost 50 years. Never in that time have I purchased a car from the same dealership twice, let alone from the same salesperson – that is until I met Steve Sherman. Remarkably, in less than four years, I have purchased three Subarus, all from Heritage, and each time working with none other than Steve Sherman. You know the stereotypical sleazy used car salesman? Well Steve is the antithesis of that guy. At your first meeting with Steve, you might not be blamed if you suspected that Steve’s friendliness was just another phony come-on that you’ve come to expect when visiting an automobile dealership. But, you’ll soon discover that Steve’s the genuine article. There’s simply nothing phony about him. In fact, after conversing with Steve a couple of times, you’ll swear you’ve known and been acquainted with him for years. Not that long ago, I would have scoffed at the notion of buying three cars in as many years from the same dealership, let alone the same salesperson. To my great surprise, however, Steve and Heritage have earned my trust and respect as a loyal customer. When my wife and I recently decided to go shopping for our second Outback, naturally we called Steve. On short notice, Steve spent as much time as we needed, most of the day in fact, to walk us through the lot, take a test drive, and patiently and knowledgeably answer all of our questions. When we found the one we liked, we had no hesitation in letting Steve work up the deal. No pressure, no hassle and no haggling - Just a straight forward no-nonsense fair deal we’ve come to expect and appreciate. And it doesn’t end there, because Steve follows up after the sale to make sure his customers are absolutely satisfied. On a recent visit to the dealership to add some dealer installed options on our newest Outback, we noticed a little, almost imperceptible, ding in one of the doors. Steve has been characteristically tenacious in following up to ensure that the blemish is taken care of to our complete satisfaction, at no cost to us. My wife and I always get a warm greeting from Steve whenever we stop by, whether we are in the market for a car or not. Even when we are just in for service or would simply like to go for a test drive, Steve is always accommodating and eager to please. I’ve seen Steve on many occasions since our first chance meeting, and I’ve never seen him in a bad mood. Always upbeat, Steve bends over backwards and goes the extra mile to make sure the car is right and his customers are happy. He'll doggedly and creatively go out of his way to seek out and find the best price on dealer options and service. The bottom line is, Steve genuinely puts his customers first, and it shows. After 30 years in the business of serving his loyal customers, Steve has hinted that he has sights set on a well-deserved retirement in the next couple of years. So, if you’ve been thinking about a new or used Subaru, Mazda or Volkswagen, don’t wait too long, or you’ll risk missing out on the chance to experience car buying the way it should be. More
