Noteworthy because sales team is so unremarkable I have owned or leased 8 BMW’s in the past 20 years. I believe that this helps qualify my comments here as I was, until this dealership experience, a I have owned or leased 8 BMW’s in the past 20 years. I believe that this helps qualify my comments here as I was, until this dealership experience, a loyal BMW client. Apparently a situation can occur between BMW USA and local dealers that prohibits a local dealer from selling the car an individual is currently leasing for any thing outside of the lease contract term. This is where my very poor experience started. I visited the Hendrick BMW sales team 3 times... as I wanted to buy my car out of the lease. My lease had 3 months left and the agreement had a residual value that was nearly $10,000 more than KBB value. I could literally go to 5 dealerships in the North and South Carolina area and buy a similarly equipped 4series for $10,000 less than BMW was requesting I pay. Since I knew if I returned the car, they would have to sell my car to someone else for something near KBB, I offered to purchase the car at a reasonable current value... I specifically told them I didn’t need it certified... just let me buy the car I really liked. Their answer was no, BMW USA would not allow that. It took 4 weeks, 3 visits, 2 sales people and a leasing manager to arrive at this conclusion. As I was over-miles on my lease, this means that each 100 miles more I drove cost me an additional $25. I was ready and had been ready to end my lease... so with each conversation, I ended the conversation with... I guess you know I have to go car shopping then, right? But these guys never took the hint. I did not get a single email, text message, or phone call of vehicles available. Even more irritating, the last sales person kept saying 2 things: 1. I have never had a single customer tell they wanted me to raise their monthly payment, and 2. Have you looked at the 3 series? Even though I repeatedly told him I didn’t like the 3 series when I had one, I didn’t want to go back into a 3-series. We had not once ever discussed money so this fellow was making an unflattering assumption about my financial concerns. I hated that. Immediately after that last visit I went car shopping and within 48-hours had purchased a new car. During those 48-hours I had multiple sales people and their managers sending me text messages, emails and video clips. I was welcomed and not “under-sold” at any of those dealerships. Do you know what I received from Hendrick BMW? Nothing. No texts, emails or phone calls. An apathetic, dis-interested sales force and no management intervention. So... I am no longer a loyal BMW enthusiast. I suppose I should thank them for giving me the chance to experience a few other car makers top-of-the-line options because I am really happy with my new car. The sales people at Hendrick BMW fell flat on this deal. They did not sell a car, and I left feeling insulted. More
