I haven't had the opportunity to speak with you in regards to your concerns. I reviewed the repair order and see that there was an Airbag light on. There was a code B101614 in the system for passenger side airbag disabled indicator lamp open circuit/short circuit to ground passive/sporadic. We then checked and found the light assembly is bad internally. The estimate was for $392 to fix it. I read your comment that you went to a local shop and the were able to shut the light off at no charge. I read how you feel we are criminally negligent because of the repairs that we recommended. The Carfax reports an accident on 5/4/14. We don't know how long the light has been on and haven't seen your car for service in over 30,000 miles. There is a huge liability on our part to repair the car properly and ethically. For the safety of you and your passengers I cannot just shut a light off on one of your safety systems without a proper repair and hope nothing happens. Volkswagen will not even allow us to perform wiring repairs to the airbag system for safety reasons. If the light needs to come on now for something serious it may not warn you because the concern was not fixed. The light may be out but the problem is still there. Its easy for an outside shop to do those types of repairs because their guidelines and rules of conduct are much simpler. Being that it was a sporadic fault means the concern comes and goes. It's only a matter of time until the light comes back on or something happens. I am use to hearing from my customers about their concerns before I read an unfavorable review. In this case I did not have the opportunity. I left a phone message the other day in hopes of trying to understand and resolve the concern.

Your technicians "found the light assembly is bad internally." That was/is not the case. My local mechanic did not "turn the light off", that implies that I am ignoring a necessary warning. My local mechanic ran a diagnostic check right in front of me so I could see what was occurring (transparency not offered by Hamilton VW). While he was running a check of errors and warnings he told me if there is an underlying issue with the sensor/light it will stay illuminated after the check completes. If the warning is false this sequence will reset it. It was a false warning. Your claim that, "There is a huge liability on our part to repair the car properly and ethically." is exactly my point, and replacing parts that are working as designed at my expense is neither proper nor ethical. Hamilton VW's continued defense of this process becomes more upsetting and more deplorable which each attempt. Bottom line, when running the diagnostic test the Hamilton VW mechanic SHOULD have checked the validity of this error/warning light; I saw with my own eyes how simple the process is. Instead they intentionally recommended unnecessary repairs, proven to be unnecessary by the fact that my car is now working as designed despite Hamilton VW's attempts otherwise. I left Hamilton VW with no service performed and money spent, and you find this somehow defensible.
