Unethical, sleazy practice SHADY, SHADY DEALING. Dave told me straight to my face "I know you have outside financing but sign this form, put down your SSN. We won't actually run SHADY, SHADY DEALING. Dave told me straight to my face "I know you have outside financing but sign this form, put down your SSN. We won't actually run the credit check but it's just for reference." Me being a naive, first time car buyer did as told thinking "This guy can't actually be lying to my face, can he?" Yes, he was. I checked my credit report a month later, and lo and behold, "Hamer Toyota" shows up as a hard credit pull and my score is dinged. For reference, this is what a former car salesman told me about the practice of forcing customers (even with outside financing, like I did) to fill in credit application forms: "This is the exact experience you will get at every major dealer in California at the least. They will run your credit if you fill out that form and they will not sell you a car without you filling it out. You could bring in cash and they would make you fill it out. Not joking. I sold cars briefly and a guy wanted to buy a Corvette in cash and he spent 3 hrs arguing why he shouldn't have to fill out a credit app. The reason they do this is not for the reason they say. They will tell you it has something to do with the Patriot Act. While they do have to fill out something for the PA it is not the reason. But that usually gets most people to fold. The dealerships get nice kickbacks from financial institutes this is also how the finance guy gets paid. Even though you have financing or cash they will run your credit and try to get you to finance the car. They have also been none to open the account and instantly pay it off with the funds you provide. Thus giving them the kickback but unless you watch your credit you would not be any wiser. If you fill it out they will run your credit even if they tell you they won't." STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. If they're pulling shady, unethical business practices like this, be assured they won't be shy about throwing ethics out the window in any other step of the process. Steve welcomed not only myself but my 3 kids and wife. Other dealerships just take time to barely know the clients name that's going to buy the car, but not Steve. He remembered all our names and dealt with all of us in a professional friendly manner. For a quick second I literally felt Steve was going to roll out a red carpet, that's the level or service he brings. No question was turned down, Steve answered every question truthfully and honestly. Not much of the time this can be said about anyone, especially in the saws business. I will be going back to Hamer Toyota and seeing Steve again very soon. Steve I want to thank you again from the bottom of our family's heart, and you make dreams come to reality. If you happen to see Steve take time and read his best investment that sits right behind him. I won't spoil it, go and see Steve and read it yourself. That's the type of person Steve is hands down just awesome. More
