We were willing to travel to save money on this veh. We were between this car and one in Richmond. I spoke w/the mangr Kurt the night before the sale and I asked him if the car had roof racks and car mats were between this car and one in Richmond. I spoke w/the mangr Kurt the night before the sale and I asked him if the car had roof racks and car mats in it he said "i'm throwing those in" I said well with you throwing them in and Mechanicsville Toyota charging us $200 we are still only $241 apart on price for his DEMO and their NEW cars. He agreed to take an aditional 500 off the price and we agreed to buy the car. The next day we showed up for delivery and I saw the mats placed in the car were the cheap carpet mats and not what the manager had promised. I immediatly brought it to the attention of my salesman and 2 other assoc. and they kept saying they would find out. We are in the finance manager's office before we got any answer. They put the "All weather mats" in the 1st and 2nd rows....BUT THE MANAGER WAS ALL IN AND DREW THE LINE THERE.WE WERE TOLD HE COULD NOT INCLUDE THE CARGO MAT WHICH REALLY JUST COMPLETES THE SET. I was furious and asked to see the manager, Kurt. He came in and told us the same...nothing I can do I have to draw the line somewhere, and I would rather not sell you the car than to have you this upset over a mat.........WHAT?????? I'm sure this seems trivial to many but I'm affraid it might be a sign of things to come from Charles Barker Toyota More

I recently purchased a new 2011 Toyota 4Runner. This is my third purchase from one of your dealerships. Again, I must relay what a pleasurable experience it was. From my first inquiries about the 4Runner with John Smith, my sales associate, to the final purchase, I could not have been treated any more professional. John Smith has constantly kept up with me since my previous purchase and has been most helpful in the recent purchase. Curt Carter worked with me to give me a nice deal without a lot of hassle. Joanna Micele was very informative with regard to the protective services but did not try to force anything I did not need. Anthony Parker dealt with my finance needs most pleasantly in getting me the best interest rate he could. This note is just to say that in my many years of purchasing automobiles, Charles Barker Toyota dealership has provided me some of the best automotive purchasing experiences I have encountered. More

We purchased our first Toyota from Priority, but stopped going there due to "less than helpful" service people. But, we love Toyotas. We took the chance and tried Charles Barker Automotive and have not gone going there due to "less than helpful" service people. But, we love Toyotas. We took the chance and tried Charles Barker Automotive and have not gone anywhere since. Our 1992 Corolla lasted 250,000 miles before we donated it. We found Jesse Cook in the parking lot while we were viewing cars at several dealers. He was not the typical pushy salesman. He was friendly, took time to answer our questions and even gave us his cell number if had others later. He won us over. We bought a 2008 RAV4 from Charles Barker because of Jesse. And, returned this weekend to buy a 2012 Tacoma from him too. When it is time to replace our son's 99 Corolla, we will seek out Jesse again. He is honest, caring and makes us feel he really wants us to be happy with our purchases. He goes above and beyond with his customers and represents this dealership in a classy way. We have no problem referring friends and neighbors to him when looking for cars. And, the service department at Charles Barker is great too. They are quick to help, get the work done when they say they will, and know how to treat their customers. Derrick is our representative on the service team, and didn't keep us waiting when we noticed a problem with the new Tacoma or when servicing my RAV4. The team cares about their customers and treats all with respect no matter if the car is an old one like a 1992 or a new 2012. Charles Barker Automotive is a cut above all other dealers in Tidewater and has our business for good. Cudos to the management and all involved there. More
It is just one more disappointing experience with them. They really don't care about retaining customers. I was at Barker today. I found myself having to call Checkered Flag Toyota, who has plenty, and I will have to go up there to get them. While checking with Checkered Flag, I learned that batteries are on sale. I asked Barker if they would sell the battery for that price tomorrow while my car is in their shop for the inspection. Barker will not do so. They said their own sale starts next week, and I would have to come back next week for it unless I have a coupon from the other dealership. It isn't a coupon; it is a sale. You don't need a coupon at Checkered Flag for the sale. It's a TruStart Toyota battery, and the sale price at Checkered Flag is the same price as Barker's sale next week. I get free inspections because I bought the cars at Barker, but their service is disappointing. You really do not feel appreciated or valued as a customer. More
