Gilchrist was originally founded by James Gilchrist in 1927 when he opened a REO Motor Car Company dealership downtown.. In the 1940’s the dealership transitioned to selling Chrysler Plymouth automobiles. In the 1950’s the Gilchrist family added Borgward and Buick. James introduced his son, John Gilchrist Sr. into the automotive industry and John Sr. eventually became the dealer in the 1960’s. Opel was the next brand to be added during this time. John Sr. continued to serve the local Tacoma Community while raising his sons, John Jr. and Gary, into the industry. By late 1980’s the Gilchrist family had stepped away from all of the brands except Buick. John Sr. decided to grow from being just a Buick dealership to adding the Chevrolet franchise in 1988. In 1991 John Sr. passed the legacy along once again to his sons, John Jr. and Gary. In 2009 the Gilchrist family decided to grow the brand again and added GMC to the mix. After years of working in the dealership John’s daughter Stephanie and Gary’s son Nick have begun to transition the dealership into the fourth generation of Gilchrist’s. In the 90+ years of serving the local community, the Gilchrist family has been able to keep the dealership within the family and help countless other families get reliable vehicles at a great price.

The only thing I can say is don't let Samuel c.reed be the sales manhe is selfish I asked him if the car have got to key he keeps on telling me that he's going to bring the other one not all that when I w the sales manhe is selfish I asked him if the car have got to key he keeps on telling me that he's going to bring the other one not all that when I was about to work out he promised me that he would give me a lifetime oil change of course which I don't believe that's going to happen I bought the car because my wife like the color of that car so I end up buying the car when I went back to get my license plate he was standing in the lobby and he just said go to the other building they will give you the plate I will never forget how happy he was once I signed the paperwork I don't know about the other sales people if you want to buy a Chevy go to Bellevue Chevy I bought Chevy suburban from Bellevue they treat me like a customer More

Everyone at the dealership was really nice. I got an oil change which didnt take long at all. I have no issues with anything but the fact that they have no baby changing take in the bathroom. Chevy Bolt Ev Went in to buy a Chevy Bolt EV and the one I wanted was already spoken for. Tom M. was a great fit for my personality. He was professional and quick Went in to buy a Chevy Bolt EV and the one I wanted was already spoken for. Tom M. was a great fit for my personality. He was professional and quickly enlisted the help of others in the sales department to try and hunt down a similar vehicle in the color I wanted. None existed so the next step was not to convince me to get one in a color I didn't want but instead to help negotiate a better price on the in stock Bolt (higher trim package than I was hoping for). We closed the deal long after the dealership closed (my fault I did not know they closed early on Saturdays). Sorry for keeping you late Tom but thanks for a great new car and a great buying experience. To put this all in perspective, I had walked away from another local Chevy Dealership, two weeks earlier, after they wasted 3 hours of my time playing the lets make a deal game. More
