My daughter was looking at vehicles and decided on a used Tiguan from this place. We felt we received a decent price and trade in and the salesman, Norman, seemed to be helpful and customer focused. However, that was the end of the good experience. Driving the vehicle the next day, my daughter noticed all the warning yellow lights were on and would not go off. She brought the SUV back and they said it was just a glitch. In their defense, she didn't tell them the lights were on during driving the suv, they thought it was just after starting the suv. The next day, Saturday, it happened again. My wife and I went with her back to the dealership. I told them we wanted it fixed or we wanted our money back. They said they couldn't give the money back but would get it fixed. I got no where with anyone so we finally spoke with the GM Richard Powell. He had an attitude to begin with. I did to, because we had waited and waited to speak with him. I told him we had read many reviews and that these vehicles had a history with electrical problems and we were concerned. His next comment was " so you know what the problem is, based on the Internet?" After that smart xxx comment, I told him we had a 3 day period in which we could rescind the deal based on state law. I was willing to let them fix it, but if it wasn't fixed, I wanted to extend my right to rescind. He specifically told me, I had no rights! My son is an attorney and he said that there are laws in NC that state we have the right to rescind and it's actually longer than three days. Granted, the laws are vague and up,to interpretation. The right to revoke statute is NCGS s25-2-608 in case anyone wants to look it up. The GM's next words were my son, an attorney did not know what he was talking about and he knew all the laws. I guess he 'forgot' about the statute that proves him wrong and that he doesn't know everything. I asked him again if he would be a decent business man and stand behind his service dept and his vehicle so I could be sure my daughter was driving a safe vehicle. With her driving the vehicle with all the lights on, she will not know if there is really something wrong. He told me he would not and said he didn't want my business. I told him that's fine and give our check back then. He refused saying he 'couldn't write a check on Saturday'. He can accept a check on Saturday, just can't write one. Another lie! So, he didn't want my business, but wouldn't give us our check back! What gives? My daughter wanted the car and decided to let them fix it. I doubt they are cable of doing that, but we'll see. If we have problems with the electrical again, we will go to court and see what happens. I guess the GM will be able to represent the dealership, since he 'knows' all the laws. So, be very cautious, because this GM will NOT stand by his word or dealership. More

Leather seats, XM radio, regular fuel usage and 4 door.I purchased a beautiful car Wednesday. All the paper work with the car (on the window sticker) states XM radio. The salesman stated it has XM radio. IT DOES NOT. I emailed the salesman Cliff--no reply. I leave 2 messages for Chavis--no reply. I drive over on Friday and Rick the manager says 'I don't know what to tell you". WOW. Rick then offers me 2 free oil changes. I will be curious when I go back after 7000 miles if he remembers----IM NOT BETTING ON IT. Never will I go there again #lovethecarnotccommercials More

These people are awful and do not care about their customers I bought a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 at this dealer in July 2015. When I purchased the car, I spent $1500 extra on a warranty that they offered. I love my ca I bought a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 at this dealer in July 2015. When I purchased the car, I spent $1500 extra on a warranty that they offered. I love my car, and had no problems with it until last week when I had a check engine light. I brought it to an indy mechanic who diagnosed it as a bad oxygen sensor, and needing an ecu reflash which only the Mazda dealer can do. I brought my car to sport durst mazda, and they agreed. They called the warranty company to file the claim, and the warranty company informed them that southern states volkswagen has a clause in the warranty contract that all work must be performed by southern states volkswagen, but since it was a mazda and could only be serviced by a mazda dealer for this repair, southern states could call the warranty company and authorize sport durst to do the work. I called southern states volkswagen, and asked them to do so. I spoke with deborah, and she refused. She said I had to bring the car in to them. I explained that the car was already at sport durst, and a mazda dealer needed to do the work so they would have to send it to sport durst to do the work anyway even if I did bring it in to them and that the warranty company said if they just called and authorized it, sport durst could do the work. She didn't seem to care, and insisted that I had to bring it to them. She asked for the name of who I spoke to at sport durst, and said she would call them and get back to me. She called back about 15 minutes later and again insisted that I had to bring the car to them. I left work early to go pick my car up from sport durst, and bring it to southern states volkswagen, even though Deborah had admitted that ultimately sport durst (where my car already was) would be doing the work. I arrived at southern states, and gave then my keys and asked for a loaner car.i was refused, and I asked to speak with the most senior person working at the time, a man named frank. Frank was by far the most condescending unsympathetic person I have ever spoken to. He did not care that they were aggressively wasting my time in making me bring my car to them, and then stated that 'loaners are for volkswagen customers.' I bought my car from them, I am a volkswagen customer. My sister, who gave me a ride, bought a new jetta from them 6 months previously. She pointed this out, and his response was 'yeah, but this is his car.' He wanted to have me take my car home, and wait until sport durst had the parts in 3 days later to give me a loaner after I took an afternoon off work to bring my car to them at their insistence. I refused, and just brought my car back to sport durst and am just paying them for the $1000 repair out of pocket because Frank was such a xxxxx. And you know what? Sport durst gave me a loaner, no problem even though they didn't have the parts in. To sum up, I would rather pay $1000 out of pocket than pay a $100 deductible to have my car fixed, because the people at southern states wasted my time and were offensively condescending. It's clear that these people do not care about their customers, and I would caution anyone looking to purchase or have a vehicle serviced by them. Go to sport durst, they will treat you like a human being. More

I just needed some advice. My "VW team" was attentive to hear me out, honest about my situation and came up with a few options that were the best for me (not necessarily for VW). I was then able and comfortable to make a sound decision without being pressured. I ended up purchasing a new 2017 VW and am completely satisfied and at peace with my decision. My "VW team" is approachable, attentive, knowledgeable about their product, and a joy to work and speak with. As an Organizing Professional, the dealership environment (including the restroom(s) were/are clean, visually organized, and the other employees were/are professional in appearance and attitude. This is my second time (within 3 years) doing business with Southern States Volkswagen of Durham and I will continue to take my business there. More

We had picked out a replacement 2015 golf that would have only cost $ 6,000 after the check, but due to some issues with VW corporate, that car was not available until March. Fortunately, the staff at Durham VW (formerly Southern States) helped us get a 2017 All Track for nearly the same price. the staff were incredibly friendly, and equally helpful. More
Fantastic Service at Southern States! I've bought my last two cars at Southern States. For my most recent purchase I had Keith Hutchins as my salesperson. He was amazing! Super nice, super I've bought my last two cars at Southern States. For my most recent purchase I had Keith Hutchins as my salesperson. He was amazing! Super nice, super knowledgeable, friendly, relaxed, and patient. He gave me plenty of space to do my research, answered all my questions, spent over 3 hours with me test driving cars, and gave me the best price of all dealerships. It was such a pleasure to work with him and his team. In fact I spent a good portion of my New Year's Eve with Keith and Chavis and it was actually quite fun and entertaining. I can't recommend Keith and the crew at Southern States highly enough. More
Exceptional Service from Keith Hutchins, Salesman Keith Hutchins is the best car salesman I have ever worked with over all my years of buying cars. He is knowledgeable, friendly, professional & caring Keith Hutchins is the best car salesman I have ever worked with over all my years of buying cars. He is knowledgeable, friendly, professional & caring. He made us feel comfortable at the showroom, guided us through the different cars available and patiently answered our questions. He initially spent almost 3 hours with us during the test drive, schooling us in the superior technology of the car. I have never received this type of attention before when buying a car. I’v always dreaded buying a car as my past experience has been a 10 minute test drive and then a hard sell and haggling over the price. Keith has opened my eyes to a whole new car buying experience. I have been a Toyota owner for years and was going to buy another one but on a whim stopped into the VW dealership. I had no intention of buying a VW but once we met Keith, I never even considered the Toyota again. My car had to be ordered and during the several months I waited for it, Keith kept me updated on its status.. I picked up the car this week and again Keith spent hours with us reviewing the things I needed to know about my car. Being technically challenged, this was certainly appreciated. He went above and beyond and even set up our phones, showed us how to use the radio and even set up Siri for us. He reassured us that he is always available to help if needed and that his relationship with us did not stop when we drove the car off the lot. He went over the car manuals and other pertinent information I needed as a new VW owner. He introduced us to other members of his team, took us to the service dept so that I would be familiar with the process when I come in for service. The next day, I received a phone call from Keith inquiring about my initial experiences with car. I have never received this type of follow-up in over 50 years of purchasing cars. Your usually out the door and the salesman is done with you. Keith introduced us to numerous members of his teams. I found them all extremely friendly, personable and helpful. This was my best car shopping experience ever and it was all due to Keith. I will recommend him to friends and family and if I ever find myself needing a new car, Keith is the only salesman I will work with. He is a great representative for VW, having worked with the company for 22 years. This is not just a job for Keith. It is a passion and he is committed to VW. In addition, Keith is a genuinely nice person. In my mind, Keith Hutchins is ’VW SALESMAN OF THE YEAR”! More
