On March 31, I brought in a used 2015 Equinox I had purchased elsewhere. (I moved too slowly to get a similar one at Ferman.) I learned a hard lesson about the meaning of AS-IS. The On Star mechanism d purchased elsewhere. (I moved too slowly to get a similar one at Ferman.) I learned a hard lesson about the meaning of AS-IS. The On Star mechanism did not work, nor did the backup camera. I brought the car in, but my service manager was out, meaning that somebody had to double up on people. The process took longer than I thought, given that no work was done that day and that it took more time to find my car once I was “ready.” I was surprised but not shocked that the On Star button was $493 and that the camera was $159. On Friday, May 6, I received a call from a service manager, possibly Robert?, who said that one of the items was in. I required about the other, and it turned out that both had come in. I made an appointment with him for Monday, May 9, at 9 a.m. I arrived Monday, only to discover that I did NOT have an appointment. (I also met a woman later in the waiting area who had the same thing happen to her.) It took half an hour for Merrick to get to me. Finally, they took my vehicle to do the necessary work. Finally, it was ready. I confess that my naïveté did not allow me to imagine that the cost of labor to install the $493 On Star item would be $700 or that the cost of labor to install the $159 backup camera would be $540. I know now that I should inquire in advance about the labor costs of such project, since they were double the cost of the parts. Additionally, I have on two occasions had my 2018 Equinox in for work and mentioned specifically that my mechanic said I have a cracked catalytic converter. I was told I did not and was sent home with the check engine light still on (it still is). I have purchased two new vehicles from Ferman, and I may do so in the future, but in our mutual interest I will take my vehicle repairs elsewhere. I believe I could have done better than $1400 for those installations. P.S. I was so rattled when I left the dealership after spending $700 to get the $500 On Star part installed that I did not notice that the light is still RED and that On Star STILL does not work. More
