John was very respectful of what I was choosing and also discussed several important optional features with me --the ideal car salesman. That day I also met Larry Merola, their finance chief. Larry worked with me and, again, I felt completely at ease. My beautiful lapis pearl blue Legacy arrived exactly 8 weeks after I ordered it. Pick up was very efficient. We were done with all the finance paperwork, registration, new plates and my car electronics set up in less than an hour. The Legacy drives like a dream. Metric is the best. I have shopped at many dealerships, Metric is not like them. They do not force you, pressure you or insist that you sign on the dotted line. You deal with the salesman from start to finish. They do not add on all of those ridiculous fees. I'm totally impressed with this old fashioned method. They value loyalty (as we all do). Some people must walk in with a nasty attitude and that's why they have a bad experience. If you are are sour, nasty person demanding things, expect that you'll be treated exactly like that. I know this dealer runs like a well oiled machine and I can guarantee an honest and fair price. More

I went to Metric Subaru for a pre-purchase inspection on a used car I was considering purchasing. The shop performed a 27-point full service inspection and used car check, and wrote that, besides needing ne a used car I was considering purchasing. The shop performed a 27-point full service inspection and used car check, and wrote that, besides needing new valve cover gaskets (as the previous owner had informed me), and a "slight leak" from the front timing cover, the car "checked out ok for a 14 year old vehicle." I purchased the car and took it to my mechanic for the gaskets. He put it up on the lift and showed me ripped, badly leaking steering rack boots, fluid all over the place, half the skidplate broken off and missing, a leaking radiator, and other issues. These issues were glaringly obvious even to me as a layman. The total repair estimate (not including valve cover gaskets) is approximately $2000. I called the service manager today and his attitude was essentially, "Too bad." If the Subaru mechanic put the car on the lift, there's no way he could have missed these things. Either he never performed the check, is grossly incompetent, or is dishonest. Bottom line: Bring your business somewhere else. More

Even though I bought my WRX from Thomas Dodge/Subaru, everyone at Metric treats me with respect and care as if I bought from them. I have been servicing my WRX here since 2003. They are attentive and knowledgeable to all things Subaru, whereas Thomas Dodge/Subaru is Dodge first and completely clueless to Subaru. For example, I had a stock option dashboard gauge package which had terrible lighting on one of the gauges and there was a TSB on the issue. I was told there was no problem at the other dealer. I came to Metric and Dave knew exactly what I was talking about and had the replacement part shipped and installed the next day, no charge. Another example. I have the Geico Mechanical breakdown insurance which is a pain for most shops to have to deal with because an adjuster has to come out for any claims, but Metric never complains and knows exactly how to deal with them and they are very communicative during the whole process which can take days, thanks to Richie, Mary, and previously Lisa. With that insurance, I have had at least 3 claims over the last 10 years (I'm grandfathered into unlimited miles/years) including engine, turbo and other parts replaced and covered. I have not lived on Long Island for the past 6 years, but I still travel over 50 miles from Westchester county, over the Whitestone Bridge all the way to Huntington, even for an oil change. These guys are honest, hard working, and knowledgeable. A plus is that their prices are also fair. Sure you can find an independent mechanic that may be cheaper, but as far as dealer service, this is the cheapest. (Oil change for $15 if I bring my own oil...) By contrast, when I bring my Acura, Mercedes or Honda to the dealer, I always leave with a bill from $150-400 for oil changes plus fluid and point "checks". This place is a gem and I will continue to go to them as long as gas prices stay under $10 per gallon. More
