Unprofessional, mechanical inspection was not thorough I generally don't deal with dealerships because I never feel comfortable buying a car from the same person who does the mechanical inspection (have bo I generally don't deal with dealerships because I never feel comfortable buying a car from the same person who does the mechanical inspection (have bought a number of cars from private sellers with a 3rd party inspection and have always been satisfied, or known when to walk away). I decided to go with Elgin Hyundai because they had what I was looking for and I saw so many good reviews. First of all, I made an appointment to see the car, but when my husband showed up and asked for the person he had an appointment with, they weren't available and no one even knew where the car was. When they finally found the car, it was COMPLETELY TRASHED. No one had cleaned it, no one had inspected it, he said it looked like 3 small children and a raccoon had been living in there-stuff was torn up, smelly, trash everywhere. He almost walked away, but they assured him they would give him a discount for their mistake and take care of everything. He stuck around to see how much of a deal he could get, and they did knock the price down and assured him the car would undergo a "thorough" inspection and they would take care of "everything that came up" in addition to cleaning and detailing the car. That sounded too good to be true to me (realistically, "everything" on a high mileage used car adds up to a lot), but my husband felt good about it and bought the car. Of course they didn't take care of everything, we brought the car straight to our mechanic and there was about $900 dollars worth of work left to do (on a $4400 dollar car). The mechanic said that they would have easily noticed it with just a basic mechanical inspection. We went back to dealership and asked if they would do any of the work and they said "sure, we'll do it for half off!" and "half off" turned out to be almost $500 dollars more than our mechanic quoted us for full price. I'm not talking about cosmetic stuff (lots of dings, cracked tail-light, missing part of the door frame), but basic mechanical stuff that they promised they would take care of and didn't. ALSO, there was a missing door panel they said they were waiting on a part for, but we could take the car home and we could bring it in to replace it later. Well AFTER we brought it in, water started leaking into the car, they must have accidentally broken a seal while they were repairing it, and they refused to take care of it (well, they offered to do it for "half-off" again, with "half-off" being twice as expensive as anywhere else). I've bought numerous used cars, I'm not naive about them having flaws, I'm just very disappointed in their lack of professionalism and their inability to take responsibility for their own mistakes and live up to their word.
