Unbelievable.. Everything you don't want in a car buying experience. WAIT FOR IT......... First, the internet sales manager Tabitha tells me over the phone that Everything you don't want in a car buying experience. WAIT FOR IT......... First, the internet sales manager Tabitha tells me over the phone that the car we are looking for is still available. I also ask very specifically if online discount price includes recent college grad, first responder or military, (for which we do not qualify) to which she says "no." We drive 30 minutes to find that the car was sold days ago, and that the discounted price DOES include the special rebates that we do not qualify for. Enter Steve Johnson the sales consultant, who assured us that he has a better car than the one we came for, with better features. It's a demonstrator and he can give us a great deal. We test drive the vehicle and really like it. We do the the whole back-and-forth thing for about 90 minutes an finally get what we think is a good deal. Even though this isn't what we came in for, we buy the more-expensive car. Then we wait in the less-than-comfy service department waiting room (why?) for 2 hours to see the business manager, Ed Howell. Sensing we are frustrated, he spends little time trying to sell us the additional warranties, etc. Later we find out why. Finally we get signed, give them our deposit, they put the plates on our new car, and we drive it home. This was a Saturday. We drove our new car Saturday night to our daughter's graduation, and Sunday to get groceries, and are feeling pretty good about our choice, despite the less-than-stellar customer care at the dealership. Monday morning we get the insurance set-up and we are good to go. NOW IT GETS RIDICULOUS ..... I receive a call from Steve Johnson late Monday morning saying there's been a "mistake" and we need to return the car as soon as possible. Steve claims that we did the deal on the "wrong car." I race outside to check the VIN and sure enough, it doesn't match. He says it's for the trim package below ours and we need to come up with another $3000 if we want to keep it. Mind you, we never saw, let alone test drove, the vehicle with the VIN that magically appeared on our bill of sale. I tell Steve that this call should have been made by a manager and asked him to make that happen. Ed Howell, calls me back an hour later and reminds me again (like I'm a common criminal with a credit score in the 800's) that I need to return the vehicle immediately. Of course, I ask him what they are prepared to do about this massive "mistake" and his response is that they will do nothing about it. He calls it an "honest mistake" and if I want to keep the vehicle it will cost us another $3000. I explain to him that we only test drove one vehicle and spent the entirety of our time at the dealership negotiating that one vehicle, and that the VIN number on the bill of sale is irrelevant compared to the agreement that was made between the salesperson, his boss, and us. I asked him who his manager is and he said, "Mike Meah." I explained to him that I would need to speak to Mike, and he said it won't do any good because Mike is the one that told him to call me. So apparently Mike doesn't care about the "mistake" either. Monday evening we drive back to the dealership to turn in the car and cancel the sale. Now, all of a sudden Mike Meah is super interested in getting involved with our problem and over the next 45 minutes proceeds to discount the car that we had, eventually all the way down to the lower trim package price. I guess there is something they can do about it........ Ed. I cancelled the sale and bought the same package at another dealer for $1500 MORE. Yes, that is how little I trust these people. More

Lying, scumbags! Will say ANYTHING to get you in the door! I told her since I was coming from 30-40 minutes away, I wanted to make sure this was the REAL price and that I wasn't wasting my time because I would throw a fit if I was being scammed. She said she asked her manager and that no, there were no other additional fees, no discounts that wouldn't apply, this was the REAL price that I would be paying for the car. I also asked her if this was a demo car or a "manager's" car, and was again assured that, no, this was not either of those and I should come in and everything would be fine. Two days later, I drove the 35 minutes to the dealer after they called to make sure I was coming and confirm when I would be there...when I walked in, no one seemed to know who I was, but at any rate, they assigned me a salesman (Steve) and we went for a test drive. During the drive he pointed out that this was IN FACT, A DEMO CAR with 6,500 miles on it! That was Lie #1 that I was pissed about. If they were honest about it upfront, it wouldn't have been a big deal and would have explained the price, but it was wrong to lie about it. So, even though it was wrong and I was mad, I was still going to go ahead and buy the car until they put the final numbers in front of me, and Lo and Behold! There was a random ~$1000 charge tacked on! When I asked what it was for, I was told it was for a package of oil changes, winter floor mats and pin striping! WHAT?!?!? I told them, well, I don't want that package, take it off. It's not on the widow sticker and it's not mentioned anywhere on the dealer website. I was told they couldn't remove the charge...and after much arguing with the salesman about it and him going to his manager, they reduced this crazy additional fee to $699. I then insisted on seeing the manager myself, who gave my nasty, smug attitude and said it's an "addendum" and claimed all his cars have an "Addendum" price and ALL dealers do it. I told him that I buy cars all the time, and that is NOT true--never heard of such a thing! He just makes up random BS charges and tacks them on to all his cars?!?? How is this place still in business? Anyone who pays this guy an "addendum" charge must be crazy!!! I told them they lied to me about additional charges and about the car being a demo, just to make me waste my morning driving all the way there for nothing. I'd rather pay MORE for the car somewhere else than give them $1 for anything! I left, and will NEVER go back there again and will make sure I spread the word far and wide about their deceptive and criminal practices! Don't fall for their "special" prices and lies! More

Suckered On Nov. 17th, we purchased a 2011 Hyundai Elantra for our daughter. The car seemed to be in good condition and had 143,000 miles on it. The Sales pe On Nov. 17th, we purchased a 2011 Hyundai Elantra for our daughter. The car seemed to be in good condition and had 143,000 miles on it. The Sales people were very accommodating and even had some damage to the front end fixed prior to us actually taking the car after Thanksgiving. I really thought purchasing a used Hyundai from a Hyundai dealer was a smart move in case something came up later. I know full well it's 7 years old and problems may occasionally pop up. Fast forward 2 1/2 months and 600 miles later, she tells me the engine is making a weird noise. I have it checked by not one, but two independent mechanics who say it needs a new engine as this one has a bad rod. After some investigating, this is a known problem for Hyundai on Sonatas and Elantras from 2011- 2013. However no recall has ever been issued for the Elantra. Anyway, when I took it back to the dealership on 2/18/19, I was informed by the service guy that they could do nothing for me. He talked to the Sales Mngr. Nick ?, and was told that they couldn't help. I asked what other options I had. I was told I could purchase a new engine for 7000 plus tax or a used engine for 4500 plus tax. I paid 6500 total for the car, are you kidding me?!? My family mechanic is convinced they knew about the engine problem and masked it with heavy duty oil to keep it quiet, thus the "failure" after 600 miles of driving. I never received any feedback or call from Nick or my salesman David about the incident. We ended up selling it to CarMax for 2000 bucks and a 4500 dollar loss later that week. Couldn't be more disappointed in their "customer service". More

High pressure sales tactics This dealership tries to sell unwanted options in order to get more money on cars. They were rude and very insulting to the average customer. The best experience I have ever hand purchasing a car!!! I have already recommended Elgin Hyundai to several people! The salesman were attentive, everyone was very welcoming and friendly, and our salesman was fantastic!!!!! He cared about helping me make the right decision more than “making a sale.” He took so much time with me and my daughter, son, and daughter-in-law who were with me. He took the time to answer all of our questions and was knowledgeable on every subject. I can’t say enough good things about him. He made the whole experience pleasant. I did not necessarily intend on buying a car that day, but I did and he is a large reason why. I am so impressed by their service, I will go to them for service as well as purchasing any car for our family in the future, even though they were further from my house. More
