Yusuf, We're very disappointed to read about your impression of our service department following your attempt to schedule service for your Santa Fe Hybrid. Our service coordinator Nazanin who I presume must be who you spoke with, would seem to be the least likely person to schedule someone differently based on their name. Your Santa Fe does have an open safety recall for the front seat belt pre-tensioner protection caps and our current scheduling capacity would put that particular service out multiple weeks. This recall requires modifications to the safety and restraint systems as well as partial disassembly of parts of the interior, this is a much more significant service than the first maintenance that is due on your vehicle, and as such requires a technician of a greater skill set to perform. We currently do not show any available appointments on 3/2 for this service, although possibly they could do the 7,500-mile service without the recall that day, but only with an afternoon drop-off time. I have zero explanation for differences between availability for “Sam” versus availability for “Yusuf” but my only guess would be that she discovered the recall on one and not the other. We are certainly overbooked these days, and where for years and years my answer to anyone calling for service was “how soon can you get here”, we are fighting capacity issues right now and some services do take multiple weeks to get scheduled. I am glad that Chapman was able to schedule you and get your service and recall done on short notice, I wish we could have done the same. Please accept my apologies, undoubtedly your explanation sounds exactly like discrimination, I can only promise that we do not discriminate and if you should need help in the future, you are welcome to contact me directly. Although your Santa Fe came from Tempe Hyundai, you are right down the road from us, and I understand it would be easier and closer to come to us rather than Tempe (or even Chapman) – my hope would be before your next service you would reach out and let me see if we can do a better job of assisting you then.
