I never thought I'd ever build a relationship with a Service Advisor, but some of the common issues (although very minor - electronics related) that the 2020 Explorer are prone to, my car exhibited thos Service Advisor, but some of the common issues (although very minor - electronics related) that the 2020 Explorer are prone to, my car exhibited those issues. Although it's frustrating to have a brand new $60k vehicle with issues, at first I thought I'd take it close to the dealership where I live - Santa Margarita Ford. So that's where the problem got worst. Without going into detail (please note that I also gave an honest review about that dealership), SM Ford identified the issue but didn't want to work on the vehicle (stating that it may not be covered under warranty, and then steered me back to Villa Ford - the originating dealership I took delivery from). The issue wasn't caused by me, and I'm unsure why SM Ford didn't want to back their product (even though it wasn't purchased from there). In the end, they told me that it's best for the original dealership to handle it due to an aftermarket alarm causing the issue (again, they identified and knew how to resolved - maybe because they also install those dealer alarms - but didn't want to do it). Even more frustrated, I decided to schedule an appointment with Villa Ford to drop it off (please note that it's more of an inconvenience for me since I now live 30+ min away from the dealership, whereas SM Ford was less than 5 minutes). From here was when my experience has turned for the better. Luckily Domingo was my assigned advisor, and honestly I've never dealt with anyone who's attentive and exhibits a genuine care! Domingo always follows up and sets appropriate timelines to ensure that the work gets done at the estimated time of completion. Recently I had an issue with the backup camera (mine is the 360 with the backup assist). This is a very well-known problem on this vehicle, and I decided to give SM Ford another chance (since again, they were only a 5 min drive away). Since this problem is intermittent (only happens about 25% of the time, but a simple restart of the car will correct the problem), I took video of the issue and showed it to their Service Advisor. Long story short, SM Ford didn't work on my issue and told me to wait for an official recall notice (timeline unknown) and to essentially just deal with it; again, please note no real troubleshooting effort was done on their end. But even upon picking up my Explorer, I noticed that they broke a plastic piece on my driver's side chair. I tried to have them address this after the fact, and they said that they'll take care of it. They ordered the replacement piece and it should've arrived later that week. However, no follow-ups and I even waited a few extra days to give them a chance. I finally got a callback (after I had to call and leave a voicemail message), and now they're telling me it's on backorder and that I should expect an "update" by the end of the month. By that point, I started calling that SA out on his bull poo-poo. I mentioned that I spoke to his colleague in parts, and that the part is in their distribution center (and if I paid for it, it can arrive the next morning). The SA had even more excuses, and when I told him that it seems he's not willing to help/work with me, he was like wanting to cancel the order. By this point, I reached out to Domingo and explained my situation (on both the camera issue, as well as the problem that SM Ford caused on my Explorer), and was able to turn the experience to a very positive one! I dropped off the car, he got what he needed, and started the order process for the replacement parts. There's currently a backorder on the cameras (which is understandable; I've joined a few Explorer forums since to confirm this), but the level of effort that Domingo provides, bar none he's the best. Please note that due to my experiences with Domingo, I decided to make another Ford purchase at Villa Ford yesterday (got a brand new F150). If SM Ford took ownership of the problems from the Explorer, I would have purchased my truck from them; but they didn't, so they will never get my business - and I'll now make the trek to have Villa Ford service all my Ford vehicles. More
