I went to the dealership to purchase my car at the end of the lease. I'd never purchased a vehicle at the end of a lease before. Michael led me to believe that I couldn't purchase the car "as-is." He said th the lease. I'd never purchased a vehicle at the end of a lease before. Michael led me to believe that I couldn't purchase the car "as-is." He said that Culver City Mazda had to certify it first or they could get sued. He then mentioned Warranties they offered. When I brought the car in for the certification, I began discussing how to purchase the car. He said I HAD to buy a warranty because they can't sell the car "As-Is." There were no itemized numbers of the cost of the car. Just some hand written figures which were a few hundred dollars more than what the bank said I owed. Something didn't feel right about that so I looked over the bank paper work and then called my lawyer. Turns out that I could just buy the car. I returned to the dealership with my attorney and he immediately backtracked and said, "Oh, you can just buy it from the bank." Then shortly after that, he grabbed my attorney's attention and said, "we can even take care of that here." I then had to pay $189.00 for the vehicle certification inspection that Michael scheduled. He didn't mention any cost for the inspection, which I never needed to begin with since I wanted to purchase the vehicle "As-Is." All because he wanted to make a few bucks on selling me a warranty. I naively thought this guy wouldn't blatantly lie to me. Lesson learned. Apart from Michael lying to my face and the $189.00 I wasted paying for a certification I didn't need, The service and staff there are really nice. More
