SHORT REVIEW: Multiple Service Misdiagnosis from Courtesy Acura on a 2023 Acura MDX. 6 total trips, 2 unneeded repairs, I had to go to Mile High Acura (a competitor) to get the correct scoop. All below is do Acura on a 2023 Acura MDX. 6 total trips, 2 unneeded repairs, I had to go to Mile High Acura (a competitor) to get the correct scoop. All below is documented in detail. NOT a good experience. LONGER REVIEW: 2023 Acura MDX purchased from Courtesy Acura. This is my 4th Acura, and the 3rd from Courtesy Acura. Took the vehicle in for a routine 40K service, "J", my service rep, recommended a Rotation, Balance and Alignment. I had done this service before on this particular vehicle at this dealership. Multi-point inspection by Courtesy Acura was 100% in the Green after replacement of some Filters. The Greeb included the tires. After leaving the dealership, noticed a "whomp, whomp" noise which coincided with the wheel/tire rotation. Detailed described to "J” the issue, and returned my MDX to the Courtesy Acura. "J" said the "tires are good, the technician ran his hands over the tires and there was no cupping.” NOTE THIS QUOTE. Instead, they "test drove the vehicle and verified the noise and vibration coming from the power transfer unit." Courtesy Acura "Replaced the power transfer unit assembly 06201 - all is working as designed." I asked "J" why the noise came immediately after the First Visit to Courtesy Acura as I was driving off the lot, he said "don't know – was probably the coincidences of all coincidences." Upon driving off the lot a Second time, the repair did NOT fix the "whomp, whomp" issue from the wheels/tires, and promptly informed "J". Back to Courtesy Acura a 3rd time: Told "S" – the on-duty service rep the issue and he looked up the history. They confirmed the "whomp, whomp" noise and said "further inspection found drive belt tensioner was making the noise. Recommend replacing the drive belt tensioner " Courtesy had to order the part, and upon yet another return, this replacement was performed by Courtesy Acura. After replacement, the technician test drove the MDX. Courtesy Acura wrote "Noise is gone at this time." IT WAS NOT. ISSUE STILL THERE. Not giving up, I took my 2023 Acura MDX to Mile High Acura for a second opinion. Mile High Acura inspected the vehicle and confirmed the “whomp whomp” noise. Mile High technician noted that the noise came from "All four tires have cupping on them. Recommend we start by replacing all four tires and performing an alignment." How could Courtesy Acura have missed this? Note after the recommended alignment on the first trip the comments by "J" coming from the technician above. Total of 6 trips, a LOT of wasted time. This is ALL DOCUMMENTED with hard copies. The only reason the Overall rating is 2 stars and not 1 star is because Courtesy Acura has done a good job on my other Acura's in the past. Not this time. Quick analogy? I go in for a routine doctor's appointment. Shoes are noisy right after the First visit. Now I have a knee replaced, a hip replaced, when all I needed was new shoes. After moving from the East Coast, we brought our 2024 ZDX, our first Acura, in for service several times. Since the ZDX is based on GM's Ultium platform, and therefore essentially is a GM vehicle, it see ZDX, our first Acura, in for service several times. Since the ZDX is based on GM's Ultium platform, and therefore essentially is a GM vehicle, it seems to present some unique challenges for the technicians, but the service team handled our various issues with exceptional care. Their support was so impressive that when our Volvo XC90 lease ended, we chose to stay with the brand and purchase a new MDX from Courtesy Acura. The buying process was seamless and fully met the standards we expect from a luxury dealership. More
