Hi Trent, As mentioned, you came in for a diagnosis for your check engine light. We advised during your check-in the cost to diagnose is $139/hr with a minimum $139 charge. You decided to proceed with your diagnoses. We also performed a Multi-Point Inspection which we did not charge for as they come with every service for free. A Diagnoses and Multi-Point inspection are two different services. Think of a MPI as your yearly physical - nothing wrong, just checking the basics and staying healthy (wipers, fluid levels, tire tread, etc). A Diagnosis is more like bloodwork, MRI, scans, etc. to figure out what is causing an apparent problem. We scanned your system for codes, those codes advise the technician to follow a certain flow chart and work their way down testing multiple items on given circuits to eventually find the failed item. During your Diagnosis we found the Catalytic Converter and CO2 censors to need replacing. You were quoted the cost and labor to perform repairs using OEM Toyota parts complete with 1yr/12k mile parts and labor warranty. We do apologize for any confusion or miscommunication on our part regarding the Diagnosis vs MPI and we appreciate your feedback!

Your cashier did not advise me about a diagnosis cost. I was handed a form to sign stating I wanted the diagnosis. No price was talked about when I was handed the paper, simply that I was giving my permission to get the work done. Learning life’s lessons can be a $139 dollar mistake, but I should have asked if you charged for the service. Coggins Toyota has my $139, and I have my newfound appreciation for both local mechanics and asking questions. There are many local mechanics who don’t charge you to diagnose the problem. Every company has to make money in their own way. Coggins Toyota chooses to charge people to diagnose the problem. Other mechanics charge you for the work they perform on the vehicle. Coggins Toyota already has my $139 and that is all I plan to give them. Also other places offer 24,000 miles and 2 year warranty for the same work. It is important to get multiple quotes for the work on your vehicle, and I am glad I got a free diagnosis at another local mechanic within 1 mile of Coggins Toyota.
