I’ve been going exclusively to Coggin Toyota for service for years and highly recommend them! The whole staff is great, but the main reason I keep going back is my service advisor, Ron. I was quoted an hour and 30 minutes however the service was much faster which was very pleasing. And on top of that I was r charged because of the appointment mix up. Esmond was courteous, respectful and kind. I already had financing through my credit Union but was sat down with Danny to discuss the extended warranty. Danny presented me the most expensive o I already had financing through my credit Union but was sat down with Danny to discuss the extended warranty. Danny presented me the most expensive option and when I asked if there was a less expensive option, he said he wouldn’t be comfortable selling me anything less. Adding the extended warranty brought my total higher than I wanted and I expressed that. I asked him ‘is this just a choice I am making? I do not have to buy this?’ He said ‘we’ll let me show you something else’ and he showed me how he can get my interest rate down by financing through Toyota, extending my loan by 3 months. This brought the total too high and I again expressed this but it was presented to me as not an option but something I had to walk out with. He showed me every high dollar repair to pressure me into purchasing it. I am a 5’0 tall woman, alone in that room and in addition to the intense pressure I felt, Danny consistently played games and tried to trick me throughout the process. 1. My rate through my bank was 3.89, he told me he could bring it down. After he looked into whether he could get my interest rate down, he walked back into the room and told me ‘it’s so great, we got your rate down to 7.99. So now let’s go finish this paperwork’ I said ‘ wait a minute, stop. That’s not right.’ And he laughed and said oh I am just messing with you. 2. I handed him $2,000 in cash. He counted it & said ‘okay this is $1,600. Are you paying another $400 on your card or what?’ I said ‘what? No that’s not right’ and again he laughs and tells me he was just messing with me. 3. While he is reviewing the finance contract with me, he is explaining the terms and he says ‘okay your payment is $465 every two weeks, sign here and here’ and I stopped him and said ‘wait what, no.’ And once again he laughs and says ‘oh I am just messing with you’ A $30,000 purchase is a big deal for me and it was not the time or place for that, especially as he is explaining the legally binding, financial contract I am entering into. It was completely unprofessional. After I got home, I realized that I did not want to keep the warranty. I called this morning (less than 24 hours after I purchased the car) and told the receptionist I needed to speak with Danny and why. I was on hold for 5 minutes, the receptionist came back on and said I didn’t need to talk to Danny, I could just come down and sign some paperwork and it would take 30 days. Given that it has barely been 18 hours, I was frustrated with that. We then learned that I can cancel it but it will not impact my monthly payment, just my principle balance. My husband was with me and asked to speak to a manager about this and regarding the games that Danny played. We sat down with Erik Shipley. I explained to him the situation and he immediately addressed the extended warranty & was able to stop the loan from being processed so we could re sign and lower the payment to my original amount. I sincerely appreciate the urgency with which he acted to help us. I went into detail with Erik about Danny and how he handled the situation. I was surprised when Erik invited my husband and I to go to Danny’s office and re sign the paperwork. After all the problems we had, I would have preferred a different finance manager. That preference intensified when we walked into Danny’s office and he was immediately on the defensive. He raised his voice to the point that my husband asked him to lower it, twice. He spoke over us when we tried to talk. He did not attempt to hear anything we had to say and only wanted to defend himself. He ignored my comments about his inappropriate behavior and told us ‘well I like to have fun at my job’ he did not apologize or in anyway recognize that his behavior was inappropriate & unprofessional. He mannerism were aggressive, forcefully clicking his mouse and keyboard throughout the process. In the end, my loan was fixed and I received the interest rate I wanted and I am happy with the car I purchased. It is unfortunate that my first new car buying experience was impacted this way and I strongly urge you to remind Danny that he works in finance, not comedy. There are very few people who would enjoy being given conflicting information regarding a $30,000 purchase in order to make sure the finance manager has fun at his job. I went into the dealership for an oil change and tire rotation! I had a coupon for full synthetic oil and tire rotation for $84.99. When I got my bill it was $153! They charged me $88 for 20 minutes of labor!! That is more than the oil change! I would avoid this place at all cost unless you want to be riped off!! More
