I waited for 3 hours to sell my car even with an appraisal from a CarMax store. They kept pushing us back until we left, after a 3 hour wait. Terrible excuses and I suspect they did this intentional appraisal from a CarMax store. They kept pushing us back until we left, after a 3 hour wait. However, after finalizing the paper work, they didn't let me clean my car saying it was closing time and asked me to come next day. I still regret my decision of trusting them. When I went next day, I wasn't allowed to physically clean my car (per their policy which I wasn't told the day before) and someone from the staff brought my stuff off the car and guess what- my wife's RayBan sunglasses worth $200 were missing!! I followed up with them multiple times however didn't get positive response let alone be the sunglasses. I was so shocked because the guys who talked over phone regarding sunglasses were so unprofessional and rude. I'm sure someone at Carmax just kept those sunglasses. If you are selling car here, NEVER leave before you grab all your stuff from your car. I'm NOT doing any business with Carmax in future for sure. More

"I purchased a 2010 Traverse in 2014 and within two years I was told by CarMax that it was worth $18,000 less than I had paid them for it due to "major engine and transmission issues". The transmission issue I had raised alarms about right away and was told it was totally normal. The engine issue was for a bad timing chain! On a vehicle that was only 6 years old and had less than 100,000 miles on it. The front end needed to be replaced, new tires, the DVD system as well as the power windows on the entire right side! All were part of the 125 point inspection that I was told was the reason I was paying more for. They REFUSED to help me because I had not purchased their extended warranty (MaxCare). PLEASE BEWARE! YOU'RE NOT BEING SOLD THE TRUTH! My second car I purchased out of necessity from CarMax had immediate engine trouble and they kept it at the dealership for nearly a month to repair all of the issues and gave me a hard time about demanding a loaner car instead of having to pay for a rental while they fixed a car I had purchased less than a month before. They claim to sell better cars and that's what you pay a premium for and they claim to have your back. DO NOT BELIEVE IT! They don't care about you, only your money and forcing you to buy their MaxCare coverage "or else"! More

After a test drive, I awaited "the numbers". After full disclosure of the bad situation that I was in because of my required trade in and a joke of an appraisal that gave my trade in - which does have a balance - a mere $700, the associate and "his boss" said that the financing "could not go through because the trade in balance is too high" - a mere $4400. As I angrily left, they said "We did all we could," and the salesman said laughingly, "Too good to be true, eh?" THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! More
Hassle-Free, Great Experience Stopped into the Naperville CarMax and honestly cannot say enough great things about them, everyone we encountered who worked there was extremely welc Stopped into the Naperville CarMax and honestly cannot say enough great things about them, everyone we encountered who worked there was extremely welcoming, nice, and willing to help. We came in looking to get our 2015 Kia Optima appraised, we had already gone to a dealership that left us less than happy with their offer, so we figured we would try CarMax and see what all the hype was about. We are so glad that we did! We walked in on Saturday 12/3/16, didn’t make an appointment since we were stopping by after another errand and didn’t know the exact time we’d be able to make it. Anyway, we were greeted and told we would be put on a waiting list, it would be about a 20 minute wait to get the process started and then about 40 minutes to get our appraisal. Only a few minutes later, we were introduced to Edwin Huerta to begin! SO QUICK!! Edwin was GREAT, he was able to clearly explain their process and answer our questions. While we were waiting we talked and told him about the car we were looking to buy, he explained their sales process, which seems very straight-forward and quite honestly, appealing! Not even 20 minutes had passed when he said our appraisal was ready, they came in at a VERY FAIR APPRAISAL, offered us $5,000 more than the dealership we had stopped in at. Plus, if we were to buy a car from them, they would give us a $1,400 credit toward our sales tax on the new car. Love that they offer a 7-day guarantee on their offer, we decided to wait to sell until we had our next car picked. We really wish CarMax had our dream car on a local lot, however, the closest ones we like are in North Carolina and Florida, being that we are in IL, we would have to pay a $500 transfer fee to see the car and make a decision - which is a risk we decided not to take, so ultimately we decided to buy our new car with a local dealership. We did stop in to CarMax in Schaumburg to sell them our car on 12/5/16 and we again were VERY IMPRESSED by the service we received, it was quick, easy and hassle-free. Unfortunately I don’t remember the gentleman’s name who we worked with, believe it started with an H, last name Acala. WE ARE ALREADY RECOMMENDING CARMAX TO OUR FAMILY, and will continue to do so. THANK YOU to both NAPERVILLE and SCHAUMBURG locations for an incredible experience. More

My last vehicle was bought there. It was a good buying experience, but the Jeep was overpriced, below blue book isn't a great deal, and the finance company they put me with was a joke (simple interest mea experience, but the Jeep was overpriced, below blue book isn't a great deal, and the finance company they put me with was a joke (simple interest means very high fees and interest). Now I did have poor credit but would not want to repeat this deal ever again and I likely would not. Really unless you can't stomach the wheel and deal of a regular dealership it isn't a good deal to go there. The cool thing was the huge variety of cars to look at. But the saleslady wanted it narrowed down and I looked at 2 and drove one, which I bought. ***I bought the extended warranty they offer there and I did need it within the few years of owning. The "service" department there sent it out to another shop for the work and I had to drive a rental for a week, more than once. They get you this "deal" on a rental for $25 a day while they have the car you are paying for, gee thanks. The repair was never really right and I had it back in there too often. The best part of the entire sale there was the new tires that did take me all the way until I trading the thing in. I went back to trade for another and didn't bite that time. Even looked at going back this year when I did finally upgrade. I just ended up at another place to get a better price and rate of interest with a real bank. Nice concept but.... More
We walked into the Schamburg dealership thinking that we will be "attacked by a vulture" like other dealerships do. Instead we were aproached by a very friendly yet professional sales person. Interested in selling my car to CarMax, I took my '98 VW Jetta in to CarMax Schaumburg in February 2011. I worked with Naru Vora who was a delight to talk with while I waited for the appraisal. Ultimately, Jetta in to CarMax Schaumburg in February 2011. I worked with Naru Vora who was a delight to talk with while I waited for the appraisal. Ultimately, I decided not to sell to CarMax (bought a new car and the dealer offered me the same amount in trade-in so it was easier to do it all in one transaction), but I would highly recommend CarMax Schaumburg for buying or selling a car. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and professional, the appraisal was handled in a timely manner, and Naru was a pleasure to talk with - he offered me good advice on car buying in general, which I really appreciated. Honestly, the whole car shopping experience isn't the most pleasurable, but Naru and his colleagues at CarMax were a bright spot, even if I didn't sell them my old car. More
